Concept for Tron-based game
Math alert! Assuming there are X players that each play on average Y hours per day, there will be on average Z=X*Y/24 players online. You can measure Z, guesstimate Y and solve for X. A thousand won't be too far away from the truth, depending on how you define "regular player". If you demand long time commitment (~6 months), the number will probably be much lower.
I have a (slightly limited) ability to create models. But, if I were to have a place in the team it would probably be in the concept design department, and doing some of the art. I give myself unfair credit for the creation of the game, that's not why I want it to be made. I want it to be made simply because I think it would be good. The person to be given credit would be the project leader, I don't even intend to direct it, I'd just feed ideas.Just a hint: If you're looking for a team, it is important to state what abilities you will bring into it. "Here's an idea, I need a team to implement it" usually doesn't work; the "market" for people with ideas, but without skills in programming, art or management is 1000% oversaturated. You need to show them that you're not just some bozo throwing up an idea, letting everyone else do the work, to later reap the profit (in the form of attention/fame). You haven't quite managed to convince me here.
Just a little correction there, it probably didn't make sense. I meant to say: "I wouldn't give myself unfair credit for the creation of the game".I give myself unfair credit for the creation of the game, that's not why I want it to be made
I'd also like to take this opportunity to say how much I enjoy Armagetron, it was this game along with GLTron that made me think "this can be done". Thank you for donating your time and effort into such a great project.I think you should say exactly that in your proposal messages. I see you also wrote one in the GLTron forum
I'm not sure if anyone is still at all interested in this concept, but I have a couple of things to report; firstly, I have made some (relatively simple) original textures for an arena (which I won't yet disclose). And secondly, I have found a very promising engine on which this game might be made. Take a look at these screenshots from the original game:

It's free, open source, and it certainly has the needed "glow". http://www.warsow.net/

Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to be misleading there, all of that is already built into the game (the engine features light blooms), I did not create that. All I intend to do is build a Square map, with original textures, then add new models/lightcycles/menus/sounds etc. (Those screenshots were simply my examples of why this game is almost already made, minus the lightcycles). Sorry again for any confusion, it's an excellent game though, I'd reccomend trying it. I will post again once I have done some work.
hmm,.... i just had an idea....
how about having a classic fps-game-server (edit: the one fred found looks indeed very good) and a armagetron-server running on the same machine, and the fps-map is generated by the output of the armagetronserver (eg. it takes the position of the walls and puts them into the fps (if that is possible with todays technology
) ) ....
this would have 2 be updated very often, and may take a lot of bandwidth....
now if a player in the fps uses his lightcycle-item
there is a sweet little animation in the fpsgame and arma loads up and spawns a player on the right position of the grid, the fps shuts down and the player plays armagetron
same vice versa (maybe by pressing the spectator key? )
the fps-players could be displayed by small yellow zones and could be roadkilled (hehe)
also its a possibility to add lots of explosions
its just an idea but maybe its simpler 2 realize than creating a whole new game...
excuse my wicked english

(edit: name suggestion: "Grid" )
