sweet! i think i remember that now... it used to be only for linux, correct?
i love everything using ASCII instead of graphics. i even have this movieplayer somewhere that lets you view movies as text characters not pixels. still has some work to go on it, but perty damn cool.
node, how's this for insane- last year when i was playing the text-based nethack, angband and rogue games i was using a gamepad as my inout device. hehe

have you ever heard of "aa" it's an ascii graphics library, with a reallly REALLY cool demo with it (called bb, on the same page)
check out it out here
http://aa-project.sourceforge.net/
if you dont want to compile etc just check out some of the pictures it can produce (but doesnt do it justice):
http://aa-project.sourceforge.net/gallery/
edit: bb demo link-
http://heanet.dl.sourceforge.net/source ... b-fnl3.zip
make sure you run it in full screen mode (ie press alt-enter in console window)
Edit2:
it looks a lot better under linux etc, so if you can do that i'd recomment it over the dos/windows version
afaik that is still truenicolas.b wrote:sweet! i think i remember that now... it used to be only for linux, correct?

that was probably responsible for the burst of zapples that appeared around that time.
(J/K zapple!
)
and node, if you get a gamepad with enough buttons, you can easily setup up the 'spares' as chatkeys. well, it's a compromise...
(my gravis has 14 with an alternate-set hot button, for a total of 28 )
EDIT: dammit, prey, you did it again! >(

Thats definatly not a fact. I know this program ver well b/c back in 1994 onwards (until i got my own ISP) I was doing my batchelor of APllied Physics, and the only dial in we got for internet was a telnet vt220 connection from home (for undergraduates) So the programs i used were "elm" for email, "nn" for newsgroups, gopher for gophering (precurser to www) and lynx for www (when that became popular) and ohh offcourse most of the time was spent using "ftp" and "chat" in conjunction with "finger". Unfortunatly "muds" were banned and blocked so i never got to know what all that was aboutn54 wrote:afaik that is still truenicolas.b wrote:sweet! i think i remember that now... it used to be only for linux, correct?![]()
and to quote from the lynx site:
www.lynx.browser.org wrote:Lynx is a text browser for the World Wide Web. Lynx 2.8.3 runs on Un*x, VMS, Windows 95/98/NT but not 3.1 or 3.11, on DOS (386 or higher) and OS/2 EMX. The current developmental version is also available for testing. Ports to Mac are in beta test.

Are you guys still having trouble seeing Zapple's avatar? Quite original. That is too bad.
