I usually play GLTron, but its lack of network support has led me here. Armagetron seems pretty cool, but I would like to set up the game like GLTron does - no teams whatsoever, last cycle alive wins. Right now, no matter what I do, all of the AI players seem to be on one team; they all try and kill just me, and not each other too.
Can I totally disable teams, so that each player (AI and human) is on a team of their own, and so that the AI tries to kill me and each other?

It is possible, yes, although the options are somewhat confusing.
Enter game setup and set the following options:
Enter game setup and set the following options:
- Ai Players: 0
- Min Players: 0
- Auto AI: Off
- Min Teams: 5 (or however many players you want)
- Min Players per team: 1
- Max Players per team: 1
There's no place like ::1

Jonathan, it doesn't look like they're killing each other... though I'm not terribly good, I'll have to investigate more. In any case, the game is over after I die; the AI doesn't continue to fight each other and their scores are tracked as a group (i.e. a kill gets points for them collectively and not just the killer).
Thanks, but that totally disables the AI. What I want is each AI player to be on its own team, like in GLTron (each AI and each player is part of their own, personal, 1-man team).wrtlprnft wrote:It is possible, yes, although the options are somewhat confusing.

In that sense they work as a team. But you can be happy that they don't collectively get points for killing each other, as in older versions. That could actually make it a challenge to get a better score.sinclair44 wrote:Jonathan, it doesn't look like they're killing each other... though I'm not terribly good, I'll have to investigate more. You also have to increase Max Teams at least to the value of Min Teams. To see the AIs fight each other after you're gone, change the "Finish Mode". "Fast Finish" is recommended if you don't want to get too bored. And Yes, Balance With AIs needs to be on (it's the default, but maybe you turned it off).

Apparently, I already considered the need to flip this flag a bug. In the current code, it's no longer required. I'm also upping the default for maxTeams so all you really have to do is set the AI count to zero and Min Teams to your desired number of players. These instructions would be something for our FAQ, but the question has just been asked the first time
