win the Tronic Spoon!

Some general observations
The spoon match is an experimental thing to see how it works.
It is meant to be for fun
It is a knockout format, whoever wins will have to beat the other teams.
So what does it matter how teams are seeded?
For me it is much more important that all 8 slots are filled than who fills them, and in which order matches are played. There is no TV money here (if there is I want my cut), so what difference if the best teams meet in the final or the quarters?

Well the diff is that if they meet in quarterfinals the defeated team gets 5th-8th place, instead of 2nd which it (perhaps) deserves.gnorty wrote:so what difference if the best teams meet in the final or the quarters?
But all that isn't so important now.... i think we should just play the games asap because people are losing interest

'Forfeit Elite' might be an even more suitable namegnorty wrote:I vote therefore, for either fe to show up somewhere and put their self-declared elite status to the test, or else change the clan name to something more suitable, like "fortress players just like the rest" or something.

here's a thought
while listening to the european football champions league
it suddenly became clear to me why competitions have evolved the way they have --
audiences
it is all about ticket sales
and tv and radio coverage
computer games are different:
they are based on participation
the closest sporting equivalent are small-scale amateur tournaments
since everyone turning up plays
and the final is watched by losers hehehe
anyhooo
this makes me think we need not organise our games
based on a system of organisation which is dictated by ticket-sales
and from my experience at least
these amateur tournaments are run...
yes you guessed it
in one day

please keep this in mind
if you wish to consider any future to the tronic progression...

You are the driving force
Behind the spoon.
So We run 1 day events?
The whole idea (I thought)
was regular teams and tactical stability?
Not likely in 1 day events.
Sporadic events between spontaneous teams,
Whoever turns up.
A little bit like
Any other day on CVS.
Ho hum.

Re: here's a thought
regular play and tactical exploration
is the consequential result
not the planned objective
so...
take a look at the bowl objective:
1000 players
organised into 64 teams
playing across 32 servers...
a nightmare if you want to organise it with seed rounds
or set up dates of play etc etc etc...
we need different ways of thinking about
and all i am suggesting
is that we should be careful about inheriting methods of organisation
which have evolved out of professional sport
but rather look at the systems of self-organisation by amateur competitions...
there are possibilities we are not allowing ourselves to explore...
and thank you gnorty
but i have not been a driving force for this spoon thing
just responsible for inviting people to realise the tronic progression...
if i had been driving this thing
we would have crashed a long while back...

sometimes I see things and it brings out the worst in me. I really mean no malice.
I still consider your efforts to be the driving force behind the spoon. when those that have been/seen/done said it couldn't be done, you persisted, and it has worked for all it's faults.
It has been great fun so far, and it does seem that interest is passing by chinese whispers to other players on the grid who want to play but can't.
a suggestion :-
some method of informing players of the very existance of *organised* competitive play. I would not like to guess the proportion of players that read/participate in these forums, but I am willing to bet that some means of pointing casual players to the competition pages would pay.
The spoon servers seem to be attracting casual players. maybe they could make their true purpose clear, and a pointer to the forums? I personally think that we are close to the point where a promanent link from arma'.net is justified

as an enthusiastic player from anarchic wanderers
this is a little frustrating
since we are waiting for other teams to play...
during this time...
please contribute your feedback

I'm personally out of it until after next week. I told my team this and they all said "ok, we'll get it done". So I know nothing about what my team's been up to.Lackadaisical wrote:so... how far are the ct vs lm and the ni vs mbc match from being played?

come on guys....
i would like to move on to the next level of the competition progression
but people have suggested that we should wait until the spoon is finished...
but at this speed
this thing is nearly dead
can we play all the games out by next weekend?
14 may final day
from that day
i would like to invite people to learn from
our successes
our mistakes
and be sure we can produce a competition that actually peaks with excitement

only ONE MATCH actually played in nearly 2 weeks?
We could easily have completed the playoffs in this time, but only a single match played?
FE have forfeited a match through being unable to come up with a team, and credit to them for being honest enough to do so, but surely we must be near the point where all matches unplayed in the first round are forfeited totally?
That would leave a final between ?? and AW as things stand, but what a shame for the tournament to finish this way, fading out in a burst of apathy!
So come on teams, get yourselves together and play the thing out as nature intended.
