2020's even volunteered to ship plastic spoons to the winners.
(well, maybe not, but you know...)
Speaking of trophies, can we get someone to make and sign a picture of a neato 3d model of a trophy? Just make it and keep it hidden away, and then when a winner is declared, sign it with the creator's name and the winning team's name, the date and stuff. That way, it can be posted all over the place, but every copy will contain the information that says who's it is.

Everyone has brought up some very good points on here.
Personally I like the idea of the tournament running over a period of a few weeks so I can get more playing time in.
Also, while we definitely need some rules lets not make so many as to where it's no longer a fun activity. It is after all just a game and we want to encourage as many people as possible to play.
Lets go drive some light cycles around, have some fun and May the best team win!
A place of honor is set aside on my mantle for 2020's plastic spoon.

Alright, we're at the point where we need to know how it's going to go. To sum up, this is what I understand is either consensus, or undisputed.
* Teams should be organized on/before March 31 (Friday).
* The competition will run April 1-30
* Teams will schedule their own games
* The seed round needs to be completed before the playoffs start
* All players and teams agree that in cases where they're expected to act neutrally in relation to their team, they will keep the best interests of the competitive tournament in mind.
Game rules:
* A game is best 2 matches of 3, where a match is 100 points or 10 rounds. Kills are worth 2 points, round wins are worth 10. Deviations are permitted, but teams aren't required to play the deviations. All servers currently committed have promised no deviations.
* 10 minute break between matches
* Ties aren't regarded. The server declares a match winner, and that's who it is
* 5 players per team, alternates should join as spectators
* Rounds that start with a team less than 5 players stand
* Rounds that start with a team more than 5 players can be contested by the offending team's opponent
* Disputes require mediation with members of several other competition teams.
* Teams in dispute agree to abide by the mediator's decree
Tracking
* There will be a page on the wiki to track the results of all games
* Brackets will be setup on the wiki
* Teams will keep their own scheduling however they wish, there is no guarantee that there will be a blanket wiki page showing all games scheduled
I will probably post all of this to the wiki, and if any of you have any problems with it, we need to work it out quickly. If not, someone needs to take the initiative and encode all this stuff as Law of the Tournament so we can start playing on Saturday, and that someone is going to be me at this point, since we're just a few days away and there are still a number of open questions.

Wasn't it the consensus that there would be a minimum amount of 5 players and if both teams had say 8 players all players could play as long as both teams were even? The ten minute break rule might be a bit to controlling, I don't think it should be mandatory.

Hmmm, I thought it was the other way around with number of players, or maybe that's a question I asked by wasn't answered.
Ok, 5 players hard-coded (i.e. if you have more, they either don't play or become alternates that you can bring in later to switch out with players you have on the grid), or minimum 5, but play with as many as you have, keep both sides even?
I'll poll it and see. I'll leave it ambiguous on the wiki.
Um, the idea behind the 10 minute break rule is that basically, if you have to get up and pee between matches, or you want to go grab a smoke, you should, and the other team can't just try to press on when they have a numerical advantage because one of your players stepped out. It's more convention than rule, teams can and should bend it, or throw it out completely if they want.
I'll make it the 10 minute break suggestion instead.

If I understand it right, what you call alternates, I would call substitutes?
How would these subs be called into the game if needed? IMO any disruption to the flow of the game is undesirable, and it also raises issues of how to deal with points scored illegally during the temporary imbalance.

Sure, substitutes is fine. It's basically just some extra players that sit in spectator mode and when the team calls them in, they call them in.
There's no way to deal with points scored, to some extent. Um, if the confusion causes your team to play a round with 4 players, I think you're screwed. But if it causes you to play with 6 players, I think it should be up to the other team. Either discard the round (which is painful since the server doesn't support it, they'd have to go back over the recording to figure out the score before the round, after the round, and then subtract it from the total or something equally annoying), or keep it. I mean, if I'm on the team that played 5, and your team accidentally played 6, and we still won the round, I'd want to keep it.
On the other hand, if the confusion causes you to have 6 players, then the player who was leaving anyway can kill himself during launch without affecting the outcome of the round and then go to spectator mode.
Looking at it, if my opponent shows up with 5 players and I show up with 8 players, I don't want to send 3 of my players home. I want to play all 8. I'm happy playing them 5 at a time, but I want all 8 to play. It's not really fair to send 3 home just because 3 players on the other team didn't show up. I mean, I think it's reasonable that if you show up to play a game, and the other guys show up, then you get to play it.

What about the winzones ?
It just occured to me..... and I couldn't find any mention of it..... What will be the winzone setting for the contest ?
I know noone uses them anymore, but in the heat of the tournament (you know last 2 points needed to win the round/match/spoon/cup/whatever) someone may reinvent them...... and I see some potential conflicts coming from that direction.
anyway, just asking if anyone has thought about it....
