Of course, that's the best indication it's not caused by ArmaBell :)

Alright guys, guess whats back, I thought I could just let it pass but It took me a bit to realize how ABNOXIOUS it is.

Problems and what I've noticed:

It only happens when i connect to my server. I connected to Pig Sty(wisconsin based) which is much much closer to me (chicago) than the rest of the armagetron servers, watched my ping and noticed not changes in ping and stayed in the double digits. My server however my ping changes violently from 30 to 170. I'm not sure what if this helps anyone.

Sorry for the unintentional bumping of this topic.

I tried something different last night. I ran a connection monitor and asked for people to report lag so i could look at it to see if there are any iregularities. Everything was said to be fine and nothing out of the ordinary, while I had the Armagetron client minimized. But as soon as I brought it back up to full screen everyone said there were large ammounts of lag, I minimized it again to check the connection monitor which of course showed nothing.

So either me being in the server causes lag, or I just have poor timing. Any Ideas? :?:

Wait, is the client on the same computer as the server? Or why can't you look at the conn monitor at the same time as playing?

I've always had problems running the client and server on the same machine. Maybe if it was dual-proc there wouldn't be a problem, but otherwise there are.

The Lag Stopped once again.

I sure wish I knew why it was doing this.

Scratch that, It never left.

I've never had a problem with me being in the server on the same pc untill now. I dont know why it would be a problem now.

I too, have always found that to be bad policy, and to have caused problems. Armagetron shoots CPU usage way up there. It could be only recently it's had so big an effect because you've changed versions of the client maybe?

How much CPU the client uses depends on the graphics driver as well. If I (Linux/nvidia) turn it to glFinish, the client always uses all the CPU power it can get.

Ive been using 2.8 beta4 for a client. I'm not on an nvidia card, im on a ATI Radeon 9600pro. I've been on beta 4 since it came out.

No updates to the drivers. It uses very little cpu. when playing. So I dont see why its a problem now?

Not to bash the game, but its Armagetron, this game isnt taking any hardcore resources. it uses 6megs of resources when my server is full. The cleint it self uses about about 2megs. We aren't talking about anything intense here.

The Fact that it worked fine for almost a year and it spikes up out of no where is just weird. It is NOT a DOS attack.

Any chance all this coincides with when all youse started using team speak? I dunno, kinda seems like Shrunkland gets more messed up than usual when the TS'ers come in. Maybe I'm imagining things.
