are you an active member/player?

Post by 2020 »

just wondered
how many people on the memberlist
(nearly 1000 since dec 2003)
are actual active players
now

this might be a useful stat
when 0.2.8 is released
(though collecting this info can be gleaned from server stats probably...)

the poll has a double use:
the total votes is the total number of players
and the options are meant to be mutually exclusive
though of course many play both - just vote for your preference

There aren't near enough options in your poll. I would recomend revising it.

Um, I don't think you're going to get anything resembling an accurate player count with this poll. I'm not sure why it matters anyway, though.

(Incidentally, free-for-all :) )

What about active forum members that don't play for example? Your poll targets only a small population with its current options.

heheheh
guys... guys...

1
it just occured to me
2
yes
it is about active players
and not active programmers
3
i don't expect it to be accurate
though if you look at that last bit
"tell your friends"
(deceptively dismissable i know)
if we each do our bit and inform teammates on the grid that there is a poll
then maybe...
just maybe.......
it could be..................
useful
:)

now...
that may sound strange
but here's hoping
(
there is an emoticon for angry and devilish
but there isn't one for hopeful and angelic...

Exactly useful for what, though?

exactly?
no

however
it may give us an indication of the number of players who play
or failing that
the number of players who can be bothered doing a poll
or failing that
the number of players who visit the wiki

note the distinction between dev and players
by player
include dev-players

what's the point?
historic record...
heheheh
i don't really know
just thought it interesting... perhaps... maybe... no...?
(
and this is a rather tame idea...

Looking at the number of players on a server in the evening is a better indication than a pole here. The forums have always been the home of very dedicated tron addicts, most normal players aren't really here.

Um, allow me to rephrase: Useful for what, exactly? You stated in a couple of your posts that knowing the number of active players would be "useful" now and for when 0.2.8.0 is released. I was wondering in what way, specifically, it would be useful.

so my previous post/response wasn't good enough huh...?
hmmm...
perhaps you wish to query the intention
the purpose of gathering this information...?
that is
to what end would the results of such a poll lead...

honestly
i am not sure
though i suspect it would give us something interesting to look back on
in a few months time or a year say
when perhaps a poll
perhaps here perhaps elsewhere
produces different results
and if we had conducted one a year ago
perhaps that would be instructional
retrospectively

i am not one for statistics
(
in fact
i hate them
)

and if you are asking me for me to reveal my motivations
then
i have been clear:
i am interesting in improving the team-play of fortress
to avoid many of the frustrations that the current settings seem to generate
and to do that
i thought it useful to engage other players

that is
it is about play
not computer-programming development

sorry
osc
i don't think either of these answers will satisfy you fully
since i suspect we merely think differently...
then again
perhaps it is the medium of text and posts
and i would heartily invite you to talk:
pm me for my skype name

ps
tank: yes i think you are right

An explanation of my above vote:

If you count playing for a total of about an hour every day (on average) as being an active player, I suppose I fit that category. As an active forum member......

Just look at my total posts.
