New Fortress Map

Designed a level that creates new, exciting, and challenging Armagetron game play? Or maybe just something funky. Put it right here.

New Fortress Map

Post by ed »

I've set up a Fortress Server with a new map.
It looks like this:

Image

It is called "Fortress of Death" for want of a better name.
Was planning on a minefield of Deathzones, but went a different route.

Some of the walls are fake. ie you can drive through them.
Can't work out why it happens, but i like it. Would like to be able to control it though.

Some of the settings need tidying up, when I have time,I'll go through them all and try to understand them (I'm new to this server game).

It's 12 players Max but can still get a bit laggy when it fills up, I'm working on that.
Have a go, let me know what you think. What you like, what you hate.

for your info, here is the map file.
It is a heavily modified version of z-mans fortress.
See if you can work out why some walls are fake.

Did you change the map file after you set up the server? You need to rename the file and/or delete the old cached file.

Seems like the client knows about walls the server doesn't know about.

Good point, as the thread is mostly about the map, not the server.

wrtl, you've got it. Sort of.

The map placed on the server in my case: /usr/local/share/games/armagetronad-dedicated/resource/included/ed/ed_fortress.aamap.xml
was incomplete (I was uploading it across a ssh using vim cutting and pasting, rushing as usual).
And looks like this:

Whereas the map uploaded to the resource repository was complete as shown at the top of this thread.

Which explains why the server doesn't know about the walls.

Control over fake walls, I like it.
Little mini arena's within arena's. But dare you escape, has someone sealed your exit from the other side of the wall?

I really got to get back to work.
Version 2 of this Map will be up in the next couple of days.
