Ok, 0 is old behavior, right? Glance from the cycle.
1 is new behavior, glance from the camera.
Right?
Default value of CAMERA_SMART_GLANCE_CUSTOM

I did not want to tell too explicitly which one was new and which the old behavior to prevent categorical votes for "the way it has always been", but yes. 0 is as it was in 0.2.7.1 (the smart camera rotates around the cycle by 90 degrees relative to the position where it would have been without glancing), 1 is new: the camera always points from the left or right to the cycle, using the custom camera settings for its position. In fact, glancing with the smart camera looks exactly like glancing with the custom camera.
Umm, I don't know if that's what Lucifer meant, but he got the old/new stuff right.

Yeah, I know. sorry if I spoiled the surprise.
I figured there was enough confusion, you know.
Ok, my vote stands then.
1 is better for mazes, and mazes are fun!

But what is better for new players and makes sense to them? The default camera is the smart camera and it seems unnatural when glancing to have the camera shift its perspective. IMHO I think it should be left as a menu option so that you can change it to the custom camera settings once you start tweaking things to match your playing style.

I like 0 more, but what i like about 1 (with the default settings) is that the camera is mounted a bit higher. With 0, the camera is a bit too low for my taste. Then again, i tried doing something in-between with the custom-camera settings, and it was even more confusing, because - as other mentioned - the camera position suddenly changes and one has to adapt to it for a moment - and then again when going back to normal view. Maybe a solution would be to mount the smart-camera itself a little bit higher, since it is a bit too low for labyrinth-navigation imho.

Agreed. The glancing behavior is now configurable in the player camera settings menu. Defaults are what this poll turned up to be more popular. I'd rather have some old players complain about changed defaults than new players stuck with inferior defaults. The old players should know (and you should tell them) that with all important stuff, old behavior is never lost and can always be restored with some tweaking. Except for most bugs.
