When i first started playing, i would never play on Tigers Classic as i thought it was just for professionals and i was omg so bad, but you were always so nice to me and made me feel welcome as did terri bear and others, i can't thankyou enough for that and its so sad you feel let down to the point you feel you have to leave
So many players have disapeared since Tigers Classic is no longer there, which is a total shame, the ring and tigers were my home
Most of us have basically taken refuge on armagetron.de i play there more for the people i know than anything else

The last week or so armagetron.de has been a lil nightmare, last weekend someone left 4 chatbots running with pings ranging from 500 to over 1000, it was so frustrating, then one of the bots would so to be speak come back to life, be abusive then go back to chat bot mode again.
Yesterday when i played, a really nice player called Blind was playing, 2 clones joined with the same name as Blind, they were totally abusive to him and other players, i have had this happen to me, and its not so easy to ignore. I knew the real Blind would never be abusive to me, the others were, so yes i could differentiate, but not all can and could, so basically the player Blind, will be getting a bad reputation through no fault of his own. He has only been playing a couple of months and i could honestly not blame him if he diddn't play again, which would be so sad.
Ok standard thing, ignore the abusers, it works for a time but doesn't really help the person with the clone. Kick vote is disabled for good reason, when there is more than one abuser, they will vote to kick the player they are abusing or kick people that try to defend the abused, that can be more frustrating than putting up with the abusers/clones.

Armagetron is a game, but, its so much more than that, its also a community. It's sad that such a good community is losing such good people.

Vertigo, i will also be equally sad to see you leave, again you are a part of the armagetron community and will be totally missed

Regardless of what server, ingame admins, admins, kick voting or anything else, good people are leaving and that is so so sad, it makes you wonder how many other players new and old have left due to abusive behaviour.

Yes, i know that one well. The good news is - they get kicked off the server automatically after each round Still annoying though... and as far as i know its not longer possible to have no name with 0.2.8-Beta4_2 which is a good job done by the developers. Man, i hope my english makes sense at all

I don't know the people wo leave, but that does not mean I'm not sad about it.

Good news is that some of the abuses are not that easy any more on 0.2.8, but on a server with neither admin nor kick votes, the dorks always find ways to annoy. I guess it's not that bad on the fortress server mainly because people are too busy playing most of the time.

Iceman's server has cool anti-camping measures in place, be sure to check it out some time.

Good question. All i know is that it is not possible to play with 8 players on a DSL 2Mbit/256K line. Not possible means - not lag free. Beside that i must admit that there are two ethernet switches between my server and the internet which also cause some delay if i play on the internal network.

Also on fortress, it's not really possible to just ignore a dipshit. He screws up the team and ruins the game in a big way. I've noticed that originally the other team would just laugh and decline your vote, but lately all you hve to say is "teamkill" and everyone will accept the vote. So it's definitely policing itself.

What do you do when they swarm you, though? I usually just leave and come back later, they feed off people who get irritated and bitch and stuff. If you just calmly leave, go smoke a cigarette or something, and come back, they'll usually be gone and you can resume play.

It's not the idiots who make me leave. They were there always, either on Tigers Classic or on any other server. I choose to play always on the most popular servers. And those attract also the bad guys. There's nothing to worry about as long as they get kicked. What makes me think is the way the server owner treats his in-game admins. Its just not right.

Exactly. It's just a game and only a game. A game where you can meet nice people if you want. If not, just play. Thats what the chat is for, socialize a bit with others and play. Or dont use the chat and just play for a good rank on the ladder. Thats the magic of this game as i see it.

Yes, on sunday, four chatbots with high pings and some other players ranting at each other. That was frustrating. More frustrating was to use the kick command on one of them and it didnt work. Sylv did not tell me that he changed the password .... so i ended up being ridiculed because i could not kick that stupid guy. I am not easily angry but that day i was very angry.

I would assume - a lot, unfortunately. I mean - most of the time the armagetron.de server is free of any abusers and its fun to play. But its just those time frames with an abuser (or more) who really ruin it all. And i can imagine as a new player being abused and insulted in his first play ever - i would leave and never play again.

Well, however, we could discuss this forever i am afraid. And we had the discussion before on Tigers Classic. Popular server need in-game admins and/or software countermeasures. Thats was always my opinion.

It is really sad to see what i call the "tigers community" fall apart. Cristi's server and armagetron.de managed to keep parts pf the community alive. But they're being taken over by jackasses. sad.
I too play almost only for the community nowadays. i've been on fortress a lot lately because there the community and teamplay in different fron the tigers world, but good and strong.

I wish I could do anything to save this community, but I am sure that my parents wouldn't allow me to use our bandwidth for a game 24/7. otherwise i'd hook up my p4 1.3 ghz 384 meg ram after i've built a new pc (i plan to do so after christmas), but it's probably no go with DSL2000 (2Mbit ADSL) and a mom wo can't stand it when I take 5 minutes to download something while she's on ebay.

I have not played much with blind yet, but enough to also see him as a very fair and good player. so this could be seen as a "generation change" (one person is probably not enough, though), but if it were, why would sylv have kicked the "old boys" out so harshly ?!

I think Schubert was just recommending that if there was to be an Admin that Blind would make a good Admin, which i totally agree, he is a really nice player and i think he would be fair too
But to be honest, i don't think its a matter of out with the old and in with the new. There are alot of assumptions being made, as of yet Sylv the owner and obviously Admin of armagetron.de hasn't had his say, thats if he wants to, he could well be reading this thread and wondering why he bothers, after all its his server, his rules, and our choice to play there or not.

I know there has been so trouble with clones and abusers which i totally hate, but in some ways if i was a server host i would also be wondering if hosting a server was worth the hassle. they get as abused as the rest of us, plus the extra hassle of normal players asking for different settings, why this, why that and so on. At the same time i know people that run the servers try to make the game and play as fun and enjoyable as they can.

Darn its just such a shame that people are leaving and servers are disapearing and so on, i love this game, i like the people and im so happy to be part of the community here.
