I see people need some clarification:
Windows users: you are most likely running a 32-bit windows. However, on amd64 computers you can install a special "x64" edition, this is not very widely used yet i blieve.
Linux users: most PCs are x86, and even if you have a amd64 (x86_64) processor, you may be running x86 linux, though the percentage of x86_64 linuxes on amd64 is much higher than x64<->32bit on windows AFAIK.
Mac users: you are bound to be runing powerpc. every G3, G5 etc is a PPC. However, Apple recently decided to move to intel processors.

Dual boot here:
- Windows XP Professional (32bit)
- Ubuntu Dapper Drake 6.04 Development Branch amd64 (linux x86_64) with an inside chroot of Ubuntu Breezy Badger 5.10 i386
But these days I'm also tempted to try Nexenta (a complete GNU-based open source operating system built on top of the OpenSolaris kernel and runtime: http://www.gnusolaris.org/gswiki)

If I remember correctly, that's not going to kick in for some time. Perhaps a few years? Very doubtful anyone, anywhere currently has a Mac with Intel inside. (Speaking of consumers, of course.)Walking Tree wrote:Mac users: you are bound to be runing powerpc. every G3, G5 etc is a PPC. However, Apple recently decided to move to intel processors.
They had announced they were going to release the first intel-based macs next year, and that was what, 4 months ago?
Right now, you have to rent a development system from Apple for ~$1000 to port your apps to the new system, and when you're done you have to give it back and sign NDAs and crap about it.
Apple is evil, but we've always known that.

It's possible, Sab. I've had two Linuxes and two Windowses all on the same box until I realized what a waste of hard drive space 3 of those OSes were.
