Imposters

I having HUGE problems with people impostering members of my SpeedeRs Clan. The reason I am bring this here is becuase I am wondering what you guys think could be done about it. Just opinions is all.

Two questions to be answered.

1. How to lessen or stop it. (if possible)
2. How to let others know who is imposters.

This stuff aggravates me because I was banned from MBC once because of an imposter. It wasn't nice to know about it when ithey did something you would not even come close to doing.

I always thought you were banned by IP and not by name.

There'll probably be authentication by 1.0, so if you can put off worrying about it until then...

And how is authentication going to let people know that someone is an imposter? I'm talking about on all servers, not just mine. These dudes go everywhere as imposters.

God will tell them. If God wanted you to be known to all, he wouldn't have sent pretending Self Destructos onto the grid.

More seriously, it's not going to solve that problem. Why do you care what people call themselves on servers you don't play? Also, one of the things with authentication is marking when a player is not authenticated in their chat lines, so on the servers you play, your nickname will be safe.

Well, i don't have anyone impostering me because no one can.

The main problem I'm having is that they are using our clan tags. Thus, everywhere they go most people will think they are in our clan. This poses a problem, especially if they misbehave, putting a bad name on our clan. And if they imposter and exact clan member, this puts a bad name on that person. See what I mean?

Other than that, what are you asking for, exactly? I'm interested in dealing with the imposter situation through authentication, but as long as clan names are just certain characters stuck in the name, you're always going to have this problem.

Well, it will always be a problem but I was wondering how it could be lessened. Basically, what I am wanting is for others to know if a person is truly in that clan or not through the authentication. And would it be possible to keep those people from using your clan tags on all servers with this authentication stuff?

I don't think the first couple of revisions of authentication are likely to include clan stuff, but I won't rule it out. It's requested enough that after we get the basic authentication stuff down there's no reason not to add it and plenty of reason to add it.

it's not just a clan issue... several non-clan players have had their nicks
copied by wanna-be's

I saw in the master server browser last night two Blade Runners, on different servers, and "culifer". I went and played on the server with "culifer", killed him 3 times in a row at the starting line the same exact way, and he said "Stop doing that you ***". He could respell his name and I don't think anyone would mistake him for me....
