Isn't this pretty close to what I said wrong 2 should be about?

Re: Tron:Ares
The new trailer isn't doing it for me. I wholly reject computer objects existing in the real world. This is something I'll download, watch once, and probably never again.
Re: Tron:Ares
I'll probably wait until the reviews are in, I'm kind of happy they keep the Tron franchise alive but at the same time I dislike what they seem to be doing with it. The original was unique because of its painstakingly created look and the sequels look like someone asked AI to make a Marvel/Transformers movie with robots real quick, and they probably can't recreate that early 1980s vibe even if they tried. So now you get a movie with a generic look and a (presumably) self-important plot.
Perhaps you've also seen that Naked Gun remake trailer with Liam Neeson, where all the new characters are literally paying their respects to their respective characters' old version except "New O.J.". I bring that up because on first glance Tron:Ares will do exactly that in a self-serious manner by introducing new members of the Dillinger family etc.

Re: Tron:Ares
Everything is computer!
I'll watch it in iMax, but ya, the trailer did not give me enough to really decide either way.

Re: Tron:Ares
They biggened up the laser 3d printer thing from the first movie, so it is not too much of a stretch for me that they get objects and programs from the computer world into the real world... where my suspension of disbelief has to work hard is where the rules of the computer world still apply to the real world counterparts. Then again, in the first movie, it was possible to turn a human into a program that retained some abilities regular programs did not have, and turn him back. It's a fantasy.
I'll watch it, just maybe not in the cinema.

I didn't watch the preview, I'm just not interested. I posted to see what y'all would say.Z-Man wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 12:41 pm They biggened up the laser 3d printer thing from the first movie, so it is not too much of a stretch for me that they get objects and programs from the computer world into the real world... where my suspension of disbelief has to work hard is where the rules of the computer world still apply to the real world counterparts. I really wanted a sequel where TRON comes out of the computer to help Flynn with some problem in the real world, or a reasonable derivative of that. It should be darker than the original, because dark sequels lead to good trilogies overall (ref: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future).
What little I did read suggests this is just going to be silly. It's a TRON version of the Terminator sequels. Look! AI is a threat! Really? You think this is covering new storytelling ground?
Man, as silly as TRON was, at least it covered new ground in everything except the quality of the screenplay. Of course, having seen some documentaries on the making of the sequel, I have a lot more respect for what they did to VFX, but sooner or later they're going to have to hire someone who can actually write a story that makes sense.

Re: Tron:Ares
You know that thing exists, right? (It's Automan, in case the link breaks) Only two problems, it's not dark, and it's not very good.
Not every move needs to be stellar in all aspects to be watchable and enjoyable. I think there is enough of a difference to the Terminators and whatnot to make it new enough; in your traditional "AI kills everyone" move, it just happens. Here, the thing seems to be that techbros are fully aware they are creating murderbots, they just think they can keep control over them.

Re: Tron:Ares
My expectations are pretty low for it, but I'll see it in iMax to give it the best chance that it can have, plus I don't watch many moves out anyway, so mise as well splurge on this one
