I'm wondering if they can trade in inertia in the wheel storage area for friction by putting bearings on it so the mass doesn't rotate with the wheel?

I would still want a standard rack on the back, though. Storing things in the wheels is a neat idea, but in practice, I'm going to have stuff to carry that I don't want in the wheels.

I saw this in a movie, I think, and the guy didn't start it properly and spun round inside the wheel a few times before going. It's annoying me which movie it was now. Can't remember at all

Yeah, something like that. The inertia would get converted to friction at the bearing, so the question is, how much? I could crunch the numbers, but I'm feeling lazy.

I'm actually working up to riding my bike to work again, and doing other errand-type things with it. I'm walking right now, and waiting for the weather to decide if we're going to be a warm or cold winter. I know how to handle the cold winter on a bike, but I'm not willing to balance that with the fitness levels I'm trying to reach.
