My macbook won't turn on
My macbook won't turn on
Hey all!
I am trying to turn on my laptop. When i press the power button i can hear the startup chime but then it shows only apple in the middle of the screeen and stuck. Even the light from the sleep LED is turning off. After a while the apple disapears and i can see only grey screen. I waited like 30 minutes and nothing happened.
I tried to boot my mac in a safe mode but same is happening.
I am thinking my hard disk died???
Any advice what this could be??

Nope
the only thing kinda working is when i pressed and held the option key and it showed me this. But cant really click on it, its stuck. Then I heard really creepy and loud sounds coming from the right side of my laptop.

How to Get Into the MacBook BIOS
Ps, I've never used one, but I've always heard they can't get viruses. That true?

No. Just like it's possible for Linux too. Just much more unlikely. "much" being a ton.ConVicT wrote:Ps, I've never used one, but I've always heard they can't get viruses. That true?

HDD is busted. Go buy a new one. If you have AppleCare, I've heard tell that they sometimes replace them under warranty.creepy and loud sounds coming from the right side of my laptop.

Is it possible to request an SSD from them?delinquent wrote:HDD is busted. Go buy a new one. If you have AppleCare, I've heard tell that they sometimes replace them under warranty.creepy and loud sounds coming from the right side of my laptop.

Re: My macbook won't turn on
If I remember correctly that doesnt mean your hd is toast, just means your os is, have you tried reinstalling osx?
Imagine if you had to buy a new computer every time windows nuked itself.

Nah, I just use Linux instead. I don't have to deal with window's slowness on my hardware (especially windows update...) and the 4,000,000,000,000,000 (not exact [15 zeros shown]) viruses you can get while Linux has much fewer./dev/null wrote:Imagine if you had to buy a new computer every time windows nuked itself.
I will never be able to type as long-winded paragraphs as Durf, but hey.
Re: My macbook won't turn on
Bought a new drive. Replaced it myself. I even got a dvd with mac os x lion on it. Still not working. Cant even load it to the disk utility. Command + R combo not showing the internal or external drive.

Re: My macbook won't turn on
Duck, the error screen you posted saw the drive fine, but couldnt load the kernel, your install is broken, possibly your install disc as well if it keeps happening.
Im not sure how familiar you are with nix enviroments, but thats something that can be fairly easily fixed by hand with a bootdisc, you just need to replace the kernel.
It might be an efi problem too, but I havnt seen efi **** up enough yet to know for sure.
If the new drive isnt showing at all, try chucking the old one in there and see if it shows up, if it does, the new drive you got is likely broken and you got ripped off. If it doesnt, you are likely hooking it up wrong (I know its sata, **** if I know either, wiggle all the connections, it works sometimes if your cables or drive jack is sketchy.)
If not, you are going to have to take it to someone who knows more than you. Its far easier to diagnose a machine if its right there in front of you vs over the internet (Both are way better than the ******* phone.)
