SOLVED : Can play on hosted server but cannot host !?

Hi folks !

I hope my English will be clear enough to explain the small technical problem I encounter...


I'm a social worker and I set up a small lan to play with the kids I'm working with.

There are 5 computers on this lan.
I can see the server hosted by any of the 4 others computers and play the game with no problem BUT when I try to host the game on a specific computer, the 4 others computers don't see the game I have hosted.

I guess it might be a problem of network parameters, config but I have no idea where and what I should look for ?!
If this is relevant, the other computers see this PC on the network but cannot access its folders, even the publi folder that should normally be shared. I tried to shared these folders giving access rights but it seems with no success so far.

Can someone help me ?

This PC is running under Windows 7.
I have 3 PCs under Windows XP and one under Vista, there are no problems between them (to host or to play on hosted server).

I'm not sure but I think the fix is this :

1/Set a fixed IP to your server.
2/Configure your router to forward ports the game use.
3/Be sure to have firewall authorization.

I let you check with google on how to do each steps, there are good tutorials out there

It sounds very complicated... and I won't be able to do any of these steps as it is at work. I have no access to router, port forwarding and so on...
I could check if there's a firewall setting that could mess all up.

Ok, then do that
You chose your ip http://whatismyipaddress.com

Then you go on this website http://www.canyouseeme.org and test with your ip and the port the game uses.

If it is open, then you can give this ip and that port for the people to connect on the server.

But if you are at work, chances are high everything is locked.

You tried manually logging into the game server? On windows 7 it's a bit strange, with a particular kernel build the server requires someone to log in before it broadcasts itself.

takburger's advice doesn't apply to a LAN.

Windows 7 might have something to do with it. Antivirus software might also be the culprit.

Thanks a lot for your help... I found the problem. It was Windows 7 firewall's fault.

I just had to add armagetron in the autorized software list.

Now other computers can also see me.
