vote for nasa suit design

Post by takburger »

Nasa created a website featuring 3 designs of the suit they are creating. People can vote for one design and ... one of them is Tron inspired. Vote :)

One? All three have glow-in-the-dark tissue.

Soo... we basically have come to terms with the fact that we will turn out to be the evil alien invaders sometime in the future?

That suit is awful. Looks like some weird race from Voyager.

Just what I thought.

Yes but one glows more like tron.

Z-Man, we are invading empty planets so far. Mars with that suit.

I actually don't think the Z-series is ugly. It kind of reminds me of a classic diving suit. I did vote away from the Technology design one and chose Trends in Society, but I don't think it matters one way or another. The site is just an advertisement. All the suits are custom made to fit individual wearers so there is no reason they couldn't make them personalized for each astronaut. More than likely they will be designed like team uniforms for each mission/project. And that's the way it should be. If there is a team of explorers going to study the surface of Mars, they should have suits that strongly contrast with the landscape. The luminescent parts can spell out names, numbers, or a symbol for the wearer's role in the expedition (pilot, geologist, meteorologist, etc...). I can't wait to see these in action.

I'd like to see them build official NASA spacesuits in this design:

Of course, the highest ranked should wear a more ornamented, black version with a different helmet and a cape.

(I'm currently rewatching Star Wars - in the correct order. Thanks Lucifer!)

You mean only the original trilogy (with minimal enhancement and without the bad edits/additions), and pretending like those awful prequels never happened, right?

Hehe. The suggested order on that random website Lucifer shared is called the Machete Order: 4, 5, 2, 3, 6; skipping episode 1 completely. I wanted to watch all of them again, so I watched episode 1 as a kind of prologue and that worked fine for me. Now, after my test run, if I were to introduce someone to Star Wars, I'd definitely suggest the Machete Order, without episode 1.

The author does agree with you:
"I’ve already discussed how I’m not a huge fan of the various modifications made to the original Star Wars trilogy, so it’s reasonable to assume I’m not a big fan of the prequel trilogy either."
"But what can you do if you do wish to involve the prequel trilogy?"

I suppose that makes sense if you insist on including the prequels. I just think they're so bad and unnecessary. The story, the retcon'ing and other inconsistencies, the aesthetics, Hayden Christensen.

Thing is, even with that viewing order you're still signifcantly altering a lot about the originals. One of the key points Rod focuses on (under "What Works Best?") is how when you come back to Return of the Jedi having just watched the prequels, it makes it seem like Luke is well on the path toward the Dark Side. He lauds this. Thing is, I never got that impression from RotJ. That's pure retcon from what Lucas wrote into the prequels. Sure, Luke had to get his anger in check a couple times, but I don't think he was ever actually seduced; he was just naturally getting emotional then actively resisting it. When he was beside the Emperor with Vader there, he wasn't contemplating joining the Dark Side, he was thinking "how do I get out of this mess, defeating this powerful Dark Lord, saving my friends, sister and my father—indeed, the entire Rebellion—all at once, here in this moment?" Weight of the world and all.

Anyway, like I said, I would rather try to forget the prequels.

I also dislike most of the edits Lucas did to the originals. Enhancement is fine, cleaning up bad matting from the original prints and so forth. But adding in cheesy CGI creatures and whatnot—bad bad bad. A couple of the added scenes are OK, like Luke and Biggs before the first Death Star run, or Han and Leia's conversation at Cloud City. But the supremely stupid and out of place Cantina musical number, altering the Guido scene, adding in the craptacular and redundant Han and Jabba scene—bad bad bad. Replacing old Anakin with Hayden at the end? Oh my god. Just a few of the more atrocious examples.

So, I'm interested in checking out that Harmy's Despecialized Edition Rod linked to. Thing is, some of his "de-enhancing" is pretty stupid too, like adding defects back in. I mean, replacing stray hairs on the film? What, why?
