There's an article on Slashdot about real world Light Cycles... I've put a few links to various AA sites, so we might be having some new players soon

neat, but you cant really get the bikes to turn 90 degrees only, now can you? So its pretty far from tron.

Sounds fun until you get crushed by a recognizer, errr, bus. Of course, it would be much more tron-like in Mannheim or Manhattan....
