The Classic Submarine (lagless)
The Classic Submarine (lagless)
Ok, so I play in "The Classic Submarine", and everyone is always complaining of lag, and I don't mean lag as in because it's an EU server then players too far away will cause you lag.
I mean it can barely withstand more than 6 players, which for me (I usually get below 80 ping there) is very annoying, especially when I'm enjoying good fights, with good players.
So I've made an exact copy of the server (sorry LOLrus, had to be done), but you will have to understand that the players that are playing far away from the UK will still lag you, and themselves, but no longer will more than 6 f**king players be a problem.
It is a much better server and will be moderated, because the amount of trolls is unbelievable.
This post is to let the ones who play in "The Classic Submarine" know that you don't have to put up with the lag, nor trolls any more, and if you want to be a mod then you can apply for mod by private messaging me.
If you're know as a troll then don't even bother, you'll be told no.
The server is called "The Classic Submarine (lagless)"
I realise you probably think that's a bit of a claim to make, but it's called that for now just so you guys know what purpose it was made for, and will be changed in the future.

"Lagless" may give the wrong impression for reasons other than what you intend to claim. I think it's Pete's servers that go under that.

Tbh, could do with the help, they all seem stuck in their ways. They know there's a server there and yet, they still play the laggy one. I don't understand it.
Re: The Classic Submarine (lagless)
Because it's the one they're used to. Some may have ranks there, others may care about a ladder, etc. Also, probably the most important, is that the people go there. I know that may sound dumb as an answer, but when there's a place you can expect people, you're less likely to go to a clone of the same thing that's more likely dead. Lastly, maybe some of your settings are off and it's creating a different feeling to the game.ConVicT wrote:Tbh, could do with the help, they all seem stuck in their ways. Just guesses since I don't actually play there.
Re: The Classic Submarine (lagless)
Settings are deffo not off, I got the settings from someone who got them from noob13, and the only changes are the rubber, the cycle delay, and the explosion radius. I've checked most of the stuff through console when I was in.
I get what you mean, that they play there, so therefore, play there , but honest;y, Light go in there for 10 minutes and if you don't read more complaints of lag than conversations, I wouldn't even have bothered.
There's a demand and I'm supplying. a server. If the server goes to waste, then it's everyone's loss, especially mine, cuz I'm paying for it lol.

Re: The Classic Submarine (lagless)
Well, my only suggestion would be to play there. If you're there often, you'll start to bring in some people as long as the server is something appealing to people. You may not end up with the same group of people that play the other server, but you could potentially get it active.
If you let it sit dead most of the time, then nobody's really going to notice it or care about it. There are so many dead servers sitting there, that would would just be another one to add to the pile. If you have friends that play that game type, then play there with them. It's a place to start. Eventually activity starts up and people go there on their own.
Also, you could try providing something unique instead. It's worked for me in the past, just coming up with new ideas. If you can create server scripts, it's not too hard to come up with something.

Re: The Classic Submarine (lagless)
I actually have 3 friends that play that game type, one of 'em is more sumo oriented, but all the same plays there when all sumo servers are dead.
I can't script, I tried and failed, best mu friend and I did was make a name made out of zones appear when you type /mirage.
Anyway, I wanted to make this server for the simple reason that I play there and like it but it's far too laggy, unplayable when there's more than 6-9 players, depending on the players pings.
I've tried other things as well. I made a Mario Bro's map that always looked down on the player (scrolling to the right), with coin blocks with invisible zones that give you points when you hit them as if it where Mario jumping and hitting the block. Flames (red death zones) would fire up from the red zone lava, just like what happens in Mario, and when you go down a pipe it was same kind'a zones but they were teleports that take you to another room which had coins/yellow zones, (also giving points). Then at the end you'd fight bowser (he was a big red moving zone which you had to get passed in order to hit the end zone which would collapse the bowser zone. It was a good map but I couldn't get all the script to work properly, so I just left it at that.

Re: The Classic Submarine (lagless)
One of the troubles with "classic" YS settings is that they'll make any server lag when it's full house. That's the thing about this game: High-rubber, low-delay and players who enjoy abusing game-play possibilities will make any server lag. Unless you have a really, really good server, that can handle the very high number of turns-per-second, you probably shouldn't call it lag-less. The YELLOW Submarine lagged like hell, yet it was arguably the most popular server on Armagetron for half a decade. The lagging usually started after about 8 players had entered, after which it was unplayable chaos. Maybe you and LOLrus can both limit clients to 8 and share the load?

That's a good idea, except, I dunno how to contact him, and not to be harsh but his server really sucksnoob13 wrote: Maybe you and LOLrus can both limit clients to 8 and share the load?

Re: The Classic Submarine (lagless)
noob13 didn't say that.
Surely you're not suggesting that we should close to eradicate lag.

Re: The Classic Submarine (lagless)
Maybe the new rule should be "whenever there are more than 8 players we fight mercilessly to kill off the extras before we switch back to normal" (assuming normal is the typical masturbatory thing that goes on in most servers where no one really tries to kill each other -- or tries at all)?
Re: The Classic Submarine (lagless)
Most of the players that've been in the server so far, are those who play in "The Classic Submarine", and they don't notice *no lag*, but as I keep telling them "high ping-ers will still lag you, or you'll lag if you have a high ping yourself".
The biggest difference players have noticed is that there are no ping spikes. That just by its self, makes a huge difference.
As I said before, I usually get below 80, but in "The Classic Submarine" it would spike to 200+ in fights, and that's when I start sliding, walls disappear then reappear somewhere else, random teleporting, being stuck against walls as if it's a server crash. More or less everything that can happen, happens.
noob13 says about 8 players, but in my opinion, it happens at 6 players.
It wouldn't matter anyway, sin, most players when there's 6-9 players, are killed by lag within 10 seconds anyway.
There are a few players who either like to run away, or like to practice mazing (the mazers will fight you if you interrupt them).
Don't get me wrong, a lot of the players are really good.
PS. Thanks for coming in and whooping my ass yesterday, Light. It made me feel highly skilled

Re: The Classic Submarine (lagless)
The server is laggy for the past few days, so maybe something with the hosting but I am sure it's gonna get fixed soon.
It's very stable server though as i played there a lot before (even for the WST practice)
