To me, 4 sounds like a good number. I even like where it started, and if I can keep the 3rd Sunday, things would probably work out great.Cody wrote:Definitely make a poll. I made SBT twice to maybe three times a year. No need to turn this into a monthly event, it will lose some of its competition level.

Ladle doesnt lose level of competition though... I dont see why SBX cant be the same way.
Re: Future SBX Tournaments
I don't really think you'd lose competition. Well, maybe sometimes with certain players not being able to make it to every one, but I think it would make it more exciting to not have it every month. It gives something to wait for I guess, to build up anticipation.Gazelle wrote:Ladle doesnt lose level of competition though... I dont see why SBX cant be the same way.
Also, right now it may be nice to have a decent break in between. I want to change a bit and set new things up for the next tournament. Maybe when things start running a bit more smooth, and if people like the idea, we could move to having more. If I plan to do something like that, I'll make a poll on how often people would like it, and take majority vote, or at least take it into serious consideration.
We'll see for 2014 where it will go.

Well yeah, duh. At least half the active players do. How do you think hours long pickup Fortress happens? Most of the clans have their own IRC channels too.Light wrote:Do that many people actually use IRC?sinewav wrote:Just use #armagetron.tourneys. That's what the channel is for!

Everything you brought up in the original post.. I was going to offer you advice for everything there (literally everything* except the 1st and last paragraphs), but when we talked a few weeks ago you said you had it all under control. I guess my point is don't turn down friendly advice from a predecessor.
Heh, I was on the verge several times of telling you about those things anyway, but you had things under control.
*as for the custom chat, don't bother, just use #armagetron.tourneys like sine said.
About the op thing, I recommend making the signed up players 7 and access_level_play 8. If you wanna customize command access levels that's pretty easy to do, but it's nice as a player to be able to silence annoying specs and start a match, which has already been brought up.
(It's good to see that you came to mostly good conclusions and learned from your mistakes)
Thx for hosting, good job all in all.

In my opinion, a sumo tournament every other month would be prime. Especially if there was some kind of rotation or pattern to the specific gametype. Six sumo tournaments a year isn't that many if you have 2 SBTs, 2 WSTs, and 2 TSTs. ya know?
Re: Future SBX Tournaments
So, what do you guys think about 4 a year? To not interfere with CTWF, we will have to push back a month. This means the next tournament would be in two months (October), and then every 3 months after. (Jan, Apr, Jul, Oct) Each year. It would stick to the 3rd Sunday of them months, which is why we can't bump forward a month into Dec and be that close to Christmas.
I got my bracket manager made, so I can quickly update the brackets now.
I'll be available on #armagetron.tourneys as Xaotique. I'm sittin' there most of the time now, as well as #armagetron but I may not see it when I'm not there for a reason ..
The permission change is going to be a simple bump up to 7 for everyone. Since Cody did it that way, I can't see there being a big problem with it. Then people can sub in and start the match without having to wait for someone to come help.
I can have it done more in advanced this time, so hopefully that helps get the servers in order before the tourney so we can be sure the correct settings are there before telling people to play it.
Two things I'm going to ask of players from now on though. One is that they provide a screenshot in whatever thread I post for SBX. The other is that they use a username that at least resembles their login. I don't know everyone's GID/alias, and this caused a little bit of confusion, even when I had the screenshots from Vogue and one or two others.
So, does it sound good? Does anyone see a problem with any of it?

Besides being on a decent schedule, after thinking about it, I don't think it's as useful as it sounds. If Cookie plans to host TTT more, I'm sure he'll host at least two a year, which now means we have 6. There may be others who host some kind of sumo as well, so that would stack on top of however many Cookie hosts + my 4.Kronkleberry wrote:In my opinion, a sumo tournament every other month would be prime. On a side note, I don't know what WST is. :X
