Future SBX Tournaments
First, I'll start by saying that I'm going to try and do a tournament every other month. This will give 6 a year, for now .. Maybe in the future if I can get it to run a little more smoothly, I'll get it going every month.
I want to change a couple things. First thing I want is to keep the brackets more orderly. Going into this, I expected users from the game to keep the brackets updated after their game ended, as I assumed Ladle worked. I was a little wrong on that.
So, I'm going to try and have someone provide a screenshot. Along with that, I'm going to make a small setup to easily update the brackets, and keep everyone up to date on who's playing, and who won. It seemed like a bit of a mess this time, and most of it was left not updated. I'll probably go back and fix this once it's all over, but not really the ideal way to have it done, and not as useful.
The other thing I want to change a little is the permissions. I want to give players the ability to op others to play, and get a few more mods / team leaders to make the load a little lighter. This time, I sort'a just picked a few people without asking because I was running out of time and had to get it done since I'd be gone the day before.
This leads me into my next change. I want to get things done a little more in advanced next time, rather than the night before. I will try and have the configs up earlier, and with that hopefully get server donations earlier. I will update the brackets a couple extra days in advanced, and hopefully that helps people be a bit more aware of where they need to be.
My last one is a chat. I noticed someone saying I wasn't on IRC to contact, which I realized would have been a good idea, but I didn't think about it. I will make a chatroom, which you log in via your GID, and you can chat with others and contact me. Hopefully not spam it up, but make it a place to get my attention without a whole lot of effort. The reason for logging in via GID is to only allow the players to chat there. It will be useless if people spam it up and I can't see the requests anyways ..
So, let me know what you guys thing. What would you like to see changed, added, etc? Sorry for a little bit of disorganization, but this was my first tournament I hosted and I didn't really know what I was in for. Next time, I will hopefully have things running a lot more smoothly.
Thanks to all who provided servers and participated in the tournament. I got my ass kicked in round 1, but it was still nice to be able to play. Next time, hopefully we have less people not showing up. I'm hoping a little better organization helps that.

Re: Future SBX Tournaments
Making a chatroom you need to login to seems more than enough effort considering you could just come on IRC and make a channel. The only people who will be there will be interested parties anyway.
Also, we had to drive straight out of the zone for 12 rounds because there was no admin available, I'd appreciate if that was addressed too, but you kinda touched on that.
Overall, a valiant effort, thanks!

Re: Future SBX Tournaments
I thought about this after having to do the new match. I'm going to make it available to more people next time, so there will very likely be at least someone in every game.Venijn wrote:Also, we had to drive straight out of the zone for 12 rounds because there was no admin available, I'd appreciate if that was addressed too, but you kinda touched on that.
As for the chatroom, they're quick for me to make. I've made the login script before, so if I find that, the work is basically done.
Re: Future SBX Tournaments
I recall Cody banning people from future tournaments if they didn't show up, excluding individuals who timely report their absence and let someone else take their place. This sounds extreme, but it makes sense. Not showing up ruins the match for people and someone else could've played in their place. Consider it.
Re: Future SBX Tournaments
I will be considering that, but not for this one. I need to have it a little more organized, and allow subs to get in easier. Then I can allow people to switch in before the tournament, unlike I did with this one.Vogue wrote:I recall Cody banning people from future tournaments if they didn't show up, excluding individuals who timely report their absence and let someone else take their place. Trial and error I guess .. But next one should work out better.
Re: Future SBX Tournaments
Light you should use my Auth levels, I made it so anyone(who was signed up) could op subs & start new matches.
Also server wise, Make a list who donates you servers and when the time comes around message them seeing if their servers are again available.
(also getting your rinclude out there sooner, I shut down sign-ups on Thursday or Friday and have the final rinclude done Thursday or friday, then I do brackets on Saturday)
Also with the whole "filling in the bracket" I have people take screenshots of their matches when it says "match winner is" and as you should of noticed by now that thats what some people already did.
(yea I banned & excluded a few people who are constant noshows, my idea to get rid of this problem was to scrap sign ups all together and make a "Lobby" and if you wanted to play in the tournament you would meet in the lobby server on tron and give your name & what server side of brackets you want, after you got everyone, you can easily go on IRC randmize brackets, and post them & servers and wola tournament ready to go.

Re: Future SBX Tournaments
Just use #armagetron.tourneys. That's what the channel is for!Light wrote:I will make a chatroom, which you log in via your GID, and you can chat with others and contact me.
Re: Future SBX Tournaments
I did use what you provided this time. It had op set to 7, play 8, and start new match 7. I guess you set everyone to 7 that was playing .. That would also let everyone suspend and whatnot, which Idk if I'd want. I'll probably just move op and new match down to 8 and keep the rest for moderators.Cody wrote:Light you should use my Auth levels, I made it so anyone(who was signed up) could op subs & start new matches
Idk .. there's plenty of time to think about it. I'm sure I'll change my mind a couple times before I choose one.
Re: Future SBX Tournaments
Do that many people actually use IRC? I mean .. it would be easier, but I don't know how many would have problems with it.sinewav wrote:Just use #armagetron.tourneys. That's what the channel is for!
Re: Future SBX Tournaments
I think I speak for everyone when I say we all appreciate you hosting this tournament and your plans to host future ones.
That being said though I think 6 a year may be a bit over the top, given there's ladle and brawl every month, it would just add to that many more tournaments and be overkill on the community I think. Maybe 3/4 a year would be better, spreads them out and keeps the tournament's value worth more. The less time you get a shot at being the winner of a tournament like this the more it means compared to oh well, I'll get it next month. I think others feel the same but not sure.

Re: Future SBX Tournaments
lol you gotta have a little trust in the actual players, I give the SBT players silence/suspend because of ppl trolling them in spec/and booting people for taking too long to get out of a server or taking a spot and trolling.Light wrote:I did use what you provided this time. Re: Future SBX Tournaments
If others agree, I could do it every 3 months, making it 4 a year. I've thought about the same thing, but people seemed to want the monthly thing, though I wouldn't be ready for that.Magi wrote:I think I speak for everyone when I say we all appreciate you hosting this tournament and your plans to host future ones.

Maybe we can make a poll on this sometime.
Re: Future SBX Tournaments
I mainly use that IRC to make the brackets. If ppl wanna contact me they find me on the server, but usually no1 needs to contact me cause I have auth sets to allow people to do necessary actionsLight wrote:Do that many people actually use IRC? Re: Future SBX Tournaments
I set up my bracket generator for copy/paste from the wiki. lol Lets me be a little bit lazier. But yeah, hopefully when they have more permissions, there won't be as much of a problem.Cody wrote:I mainly use that IRC to make the brackets. Re: Future SBX Tournaments
Definitely make a poll. I made SBT twice to maybe three times a year. No need to turn this into a monthly event, it will lose some of its competition level.Light wrote:If others agree, I could do it every 3 months, making it 4 a year.
