They're talking about the public chat between teams not the team chat itself, right?

I wouldn't like everyone to see our teamchat, there's a reason why it's teamchat.

No, not that way, but at that point you could let all spectators watch team chats, something which was suggested earlier and refused.

As for capturing what happens when it happens: being a good camera is not that easy, especially if you can't just do an "instant rewind" whenever you please. You basically have to predict what other commentators are watching or what will need to be commented about. Vogue will surely eventually get better at it.

Usually in sports broadcasting there are 2 roles filled. One commentator does the "play-by-play," which tries to give you the best description of the action as it happens, so you don't have to see anything -- you can just listen. The other commentator usually serves the function of relating trivia/statistics/opinions. I'll do my best to fill both those roles, but if anyone else want to help me and let Vogue talk less I'm sure she would appreciate it.

Well, I never said it was easy. I remember a moment when I saw a play on the stream that completely ignored a really good move that Gaz had done with a response saying that the player (I think it was wildcat?) had just "died." I know it's impossible to see everything, but that's just what I meant. Adding another person maybe (as far as commentators (yes it might make it a bit cluttered)) and have one person have one side of the grid, and another person the other side. At the very least, with the new cam that was in, you can see more on the stream side, so anybody making a comment on something wouldn't be leaving the viewers completely out of the loop.

And it'd be awesome if we could get a little more excitement from the commentators too. Sine does a great job, and all of the work that Liz has done for this to be possible is awesome. But I can tell from Liz's side (not sure if she's just tired since it's so late for her or if she doesn't want to talk very much (Sine hinted at in previous post)) that she isn't as enthusiastic as Sine is. Still, it's an awesome thing you guys are doing and I, among many, really appreciate it. Just trying to give suggestions.
BRAWL dead. RIP.

Just put the camera on Bellum at first. ;)

It's also a bit awkward because sinewav is watching his own client so he'll be commentating on stuff I don't even see at times. I'll try toggling between players more next time, sine will focus on a more indepth analysis on what's going on (with some more guests I hope) and I'll stick to a few comments here and there, huehue. :b

What could be cool is getting people from other tron communities involved, not just fortress. I'd be happy to give more coverage to dogfight and high rubber for example, it feels like a different world that's still active yet very distant from us. I'm sure none of you fort players are very interested in it, however, this is more a question to the dfers/hrers.

Yeah I noticed this quite a bit actually. When someone dies it's always that persons fault and not the person who killed them apparently. XD

Maybe start with the CTF tourney this upcoming weekend.

I try to point out how a person died when I can and usually describe the death as "forced" (caused by an opponent) or "unforced" where it looks more like carelessness. I'll work on that. I'm rusty. If I get some time in the next couple weeks I'll practice at home with some aarecs.

I think you two did pretty good commentating. I watched both the Semis and the Finals, it did get a bit quiet at times, but it's not like it was boring or anything.

Are you only going to stream the ladle are you going to stream other events people might be interested in. like the brawl, the sumo bar tourney, other tourneys, etc?

I know you don't have time to stream everything or you might not even want to, just asking if your only going to stream the ladle.

No, please don't :P I love your commentary but the video is very hard to watch, there's too much switching between players already. The problem is that custom camera shows only what happens in front of the player you watch - if he starts mazing or goes away from the zone you can't tell what's going on elsewhere. From my own experience I would advise you to use external camera - it's not as dynamic as custom cam, but you can control it freely and it gives you better overview of the action + player toggling is less confusing. Smart cam is also an option - it's more effective, but you have to control it all the time though or it goes crazy.

Agreed. But HR is too boring to stream it and these players won't watch fortress, so maybe the best introduction to the stream would be a tournament in norubber/lowrubber dogfight - I know many fort/sumo players like to play on Nexus9 server once in a while.

The other big one to stream would be sumo bar, since the camera work for it should be relatively easy, it's pretty fast paced, good to commentate over and fun to watch.
I'd probably watch some CTF although the best thing would be if you could make the little cameras that are 'fort watchers' in ladle follow the flags, but I imagine that would take ridiculous effort.

I still think turning camera turn speed right down would make it more easily viewable, if you just left external and fixed cam on you could try some clever stop work over the zone when it looks like ganking time :P

EDIT: Oh and you need a jingle to announce when your starting and stopping commentary XD

I'll try some different camera modes to see if that makes it easier, thanks for the suggestions.

You gonna be around for Brawl, Sine? Might be cool to commentate on that as you know a lot about it.

This is a fantastic idea! I'd love to help out with this in any way I can, and I'm sure some other CTFers might like to as well. The only problem is there aren't too many CTFers already, so pretty much all of the people that are there will have to be playing almost the whole time. Usually the spectators we get don't know much about CTF and can't really talk about it. If anyone's interested in commentating/streaming CTF, this brawl would be a good one as we have 8 teams so far instead of the usual 4-6. I also think it might be a good way to give people who never tried CTF a little peek into that world.

Maybe. I'm supposed to go camping this weekend, but if that falls through I'll let you know.
