Armagetron Experimental on windows 8?

Post by Fippmam »

So I'm thinking about upgrading to windows 8, and was wondering if the .4 builds of armagetron worked on that OS. Has anyone using .4, upgraded yet?

Well, mine has awful FPS, but then I think I remember the same on win 7 which is why I've always used my laptop.
I shouldn't think you'll have any problems if it worked fine before.

Everyone I've heard of using Windows 8 has had bad FPS on Arma. Unless you have a touchscreen monitor, from what I've heard, you probably don't want it. Most people I know of that had it went to Linux or back to Windows 7.

I've got a new graphics card coming, should be a good one. I'll tell you whether it makes any difference as at the moment I'm just using the motherboard chipset.

So it seems the only explanation to the fps problems were to deal with graphics card. Great... I was thinking a bug is making a nest in my computer system.

I'm on win8 with a cheap integrated graphics card in a laptop. No fps problems here, I get about 250.

Yep, I had Armagetron work fine with both the Intel HD Graphics 4000 and the AMD Radeon HD 7730M.

My laptop uses integrated chipset with linux and hits 59FPS consistently.
As I said win7 and win8 both had the same problem for me so I don't think it's that. Bear in mind I have also since re set up my whole computer hardware so I am pretty stumped. I've got a EVGA 680 clasified coming so if that doesn't beast this clearly something is very wrong somewhere with my system.

You only find that to be an awful FPS because you have been spoiled by either using or hearing about the use of decent Graphics cards that generate extreme FPS. 59 FPS is just one FPS shy of what is considered the "Gold standard" in the current state of the art of film production, and is considered to be the physical limitation that the human eye and nervous system can actually process. There have been a number of topics on this forum about this very issue. My point is that 59 FPS is not horrible. Some players out there play with 20-30 FPS and would be very happy to have the 59 FPS you are getting. I have been getting about the same FPS on every computer I use that has an integrated chipset since I started playing this game in December 2007.
Armagetron: It's a video game that people should just play and enjoy :)

And even that is usually just a calculation error of the FPS display, triggered by tiny sub-frame fluctuations.

I was actually saying that my laptop is great and I never have any problems from it, 59FPS is perfect XD

It's my PC that has windows and is giving me the FPS trouble of sub 20

The general consensus seems to be that it works fine on windows 8. I just got a new graphics card yesterday (amd 7770) so I don't think fps would be an issue. \o/ Thx guys
