recorder doesn't care about my vsync settings

Post by AI-team »

Today when I was trying to record some gameplay with the Armagetron Experimental Recorder, I was not able to turn V-Sync off. Even though it said that I had V-Sync disabled/"don't wait", my FPS still wouldn't outreach 60 frames, whereas without v-sync I usually have a FPS of 600.

I know you will probably tell me to turn on V-Sync, as my monitor can't handle more than 60 frames anyway ;)
However, when I limit my FPS to 60, I keep getting strange "FPS Lags" (?), which make the game pretty much unplayable ):

I'm using 0.4 with the latest sources compiled on win 7 x64 with an ATI videocard!

Works as intended. Those are debug recordings, prime purpose to use them in bug reports. And I don't want to step through a 600 FPS recording ever again.
(If you really must, you can probably override the application choice in your graphics driver.)

I would also prefer to enable V-Sync, even for the real game, not only the recording.
But this FPS-Lag really sucks =/

Have you tried toying with the "Optimize Swap for" setting? You may want it on "Latency".

Setting "Optimize Swap for" to "Low Legacy" works like a charm! Thanks!

What was it on before? If it was on "Automatic", I could use a debug recording of the lags with that, because it should actually be in low latency mode if your PC has no trouble keeping up the framerate.

In 0.4 :) Under System Setup/Display Settings/Performance Tweaks. Closest you can get to it in 0.2.8's is Swap Mode: Finish in the same place. I think 0.2.8 does syncs and swaps in a different order, though.

OK, wasn't clear whether you were referring to something in the game or something else. Yeah, I've had it set to Finish for some time, plus using the ATI Displays utility to turn on VSync.
