Sumo Tournaments w/ or w/out SB

Post by PokeMaster »

I want to make this clear from the start: This should not evolve into an argument about the "legitimacy" or "illegitimacy" of the singlebind style. This is merely a poll to see if people would be more interested in the sumo tournaments if they allowed any number of binds. More votes than replies would probably be preferred, given the nature of the way threads tend to evolve.

If you're on the fence, and feel something along the lines of "well, I like the SB 1v1 tourney, but I wouldn't want sumbar to be SB" then you should probably vote in favor of SB, since as a whole, you would rather see it's appearance in the slew of sumo tournaments than not.

I've already made my point about this elsewhere, you've probably already read it. I dislike restricting a tourney to a certain style which some people use regularly and some people don't. I suppose I offended Cody with my comments which I can see why, but I guess I saw sb tourneys as a sumo tourney that gives sbers a huge advantage instead of just a tourney of a different game type (and inevitably, it's both).

Does it matter what you prefer? Personally, I prefer multibinding but if I don't feel like sbing, I simply won't participate in the tournament. I doubt Cody will stop doing them because some people don't like sbing.

PS: Singlebinders don't even win this tournament much.

I think forcing people to singlebind lowered the quality of play yesterday

I'm still hosting the 1v1 Sumo SB.

FYI, this is the only Sumo Tournament with SB, So idk what the fuss is about, its quite simple, don't play if you don't want to.

Also 1v1 Sumo SB brings out a unique skill. Always an enjoyment to watch people in this tournament. Sooo as I put my time into these tournaments, i think i have a right to host what ones I want. I'm going to host the 1v1 64, but I doubt i'll get 16 servers. SOO I guess I'll host a 1v1 32 and lets see how many people get left out?

Also 32 people showed up yesterday to played the 1v1 Sumo SB tournament, I'm sure they all had a fun time.

I don't understand this poll poke. Are you putting the poll up to say sumo tournaments should only be SB? Cause that doesn't even make sense to me. 1v1 Sumo SB is just another type of Sumo Tournament, More diversity in tournaments the better I say. Its not the same thing every month. This poll is pointless. A) Its applying that either ALL Sumo tournaments should be SB only or B) ALL sumo tournaments should be Multibinding.

There are already many non-SB sumo tournaments. It isnt a matter of "who prefers what". The real issue here is the fact that the tourney takes a Sunday "slot" a couple times a year. But is the schedule really that tight that it can't handle them once in a while?

I bet we can do 1v1 64. 2 servers per hosting server. That worked in the past. I would donate 10 servers. the other 6 would be no problem.

Zero with me introducing 1v1 Sumo SB & bringing back 1v1 KoG hasn't caused a burden on Sunday Scheduling.

Ladle happens monthly, 1st Sunday of every month, with the exception of Holidays then it gets moved to the 2nd sunday.
TST happens once or twice a year.
WST was planned to be bi-montly, but the original hoster just couldn't get enough help, thats why I run the tournament now.

Scheduling is no problem, I'm still slightly confused on what this poll will achieve or for its purpose.

Ah. Well I guess this poll aimed more specifically at the 1v1 SB tournament but the poll options were meant to generalize the idea of SB. I don't think that any result would imply that people want all of the tournaments to be SB.

The goal of the poll was 1) to see whether the community would prefer SB being incorporated into the sumo tournaments or not and 2) hopefully sway you to do away with the SB aspect if the results came out strongly favoring tournaments without it. Of course it's your decision in the end, since you're the one who puts in 90% of the work to host these, but it might be nice if you'd hear out the preferences of the community. Do with this whatever you'd like.

Stray me away from hosting a tournament that 32 people play in?

Just because the 1v1 Sumo SB is a tournament for a group of certain people doesn't mean I should stop hosting it.
If that was so true, what about the CTF Tournament? should I tell Tru to stop hosting it because I don't multibind? or because I keep losing? No. Even though I think CTF would have a bigger turn out in Sunday(different topic)

Just because you feel I'm not meeting the majority needs(well in your opinion, Cause last time I checked, this was the only tournament that forces SB) doesn't mean I should stop hosting a tournament.

In fact I find it rude for you to imply such a thing.

Also I feel this poll is one sided cause I do know the majority of the tronners in sumo Multibind. Hence why Sumo Tournament X would win this poll.

List of tournaments that Enforce SB
1v1 Sumo SB(happens twice a year)

List of Tournaments that allow anybinds
1v1 (64,48,32) (happens twice a year) (now hosted the same month as 1v1 SB)
WST (happens twice a year)
SumoBar (Happens twice a year)
TST (Once or twice a year)
1v1v1v1 Classic (schedule to happen once)
War-Lock (schedule to happen once)

I dont know why this is even a topic or a controversial issue, SB just puts a different twist on it you can chose to participate, I had a lot of fun playing in the tournament sunday and I multi-bind. If you dont like it you don't play I mean should we never do Wild fortress tournaments because the large majority of people prefer regular fort? no you just chose to play ladle. no ones forcing you to play and I greatly appreciate Cody and others for hosting various tournaments whether i participate or not, its a game you chose to play.

We should host a FKB or Full-keyboard Bind tournament, in which you bind the entirely of the left and right sides of your keyboard to turn left and right.

Although I didn't participate in the SB tournament, (nor will I ever because I can't play like that) I think it is a good way to mix things up. It adds a bit of diversity to the monthly tournament instead of just being the same thing.
