CTF: Running Authority List (and Ladle too actually)

Post by sinewav »

It's cool that Brawl servers get used between events. I would like to see more competition in them. I propose we make them even more useful by keeping a running list of Global ID's, giving all the regular players Team Leader status. Rather than one or two members from each team in any given Brawl, we can have several members or entire teams with the ability to lock/unlock, invite, and start new matches. We can add section on the Brawl wiki page to hold the list of GiD's and include them every month with the updated authorities.

On a side note, I think we should do something similar with Ladle, but giving selected people "Global Mod" status.

As the hoster of the Brawl servers I vote yes also. I have been watching the activity, and the brawl servers have been getting more overall traffic than Wild West. Cookie and others have been telling me that they have been dragging noobs over to play "real" matches. I think that Sine's idea could very well help to grow CTF and the number of Brawl teams.

I was "global mod" in ctf brawls for a few months and it was practical during and between brawls. (Seems like I've been demoted though)

Anyway, good idea sine.

Great, glad you're on board gene. I made a new spot on the Brawl wiki page for "Super Leaders," which I've defined as "players with persistent Team Leader status." I also went ahead and added the ~Untitled and Rogue Tronners TL's from last Brawl to the list.

If anyone wants to be a Super Leader (who doesn't? :P), go ahead and sign up. Hopefully this list will make it into the authorities every month.

Double post due to the forum spitting out errors.

Awesome idea sine. CTF could definitely use this boost between tourneys.

Just as a small organizational note, I would suggest that it be kept on a different page for the Brawl other than the challenge board. Really, very minor though.

For what reason? Isn't it organized to keep all the GiD's in one place? And if you want to "organize" the Brawl page, then go ahead and do it -- just make sure you don't screw anything up.

Because it's something that's outside of the tournament itself.

No, it's directly tied to tournament servers. You could also argue that any use of the servers for serious matches in-between events directly benefits the tournaments.

What we could do, and I've thought of this before, is to create a separate page for rules and such (like Ladle "operations") and put the Super Leader list there. But then we have GiD's in two separate spots and a greater chance they will be forgotten. And since the Super Leader list will change over time, it's probably best to keep them with the Challenge Board, if only for the sake of reviewing the edit history. Also, it's easier to cross-reference Super Leaders with the regular Team Leaders who sign up for Brawl if they are next to each other.

But hey, if you still think the list should be moved, no one is stopping you. :|

I think you're referring to something else, but the first time I read this I understood it as a universal procedure & rules for Competitions. Each event need not adhere to it, but it's a default. New events could simply include the procedure in their page.

I've played in every brawl with rx so are there any qualifications I need to meet or can I just sign up my GID?

I've thought about this before, like, making a generic "tournament rules" page or turn it into modules people can include -- similar to how some licensing works. Interesting idea if someone wants to take a shot at it. Who knows, maybe someone would use it? There are a lot of tournaments...

Yes, you need find field officer shoebat and tell him you want to be a Super Leader. He'll give you a bunch of duties to perform, and upon completion will notify the CTFTC (Capture The Flag Tactical Committee). The committee will contact you through a liaison. This 3rd party representative is the person who will sign you up, so be ready to provide your name, GiD, level of commitment, and how long you wish to be under contract. The liaison will then negotiate with the CTFTC for your approval (most people are approved within 3 months). Note: third party involvement is required by the AABTRP (Armagetron Advanced Bureau of Tournament Regulation and Policies) to prevent abuse.

Just kidding dude. Sign yourself up.

heh @ very official signup method.

And I think you misunderstood me (or I spoke ambiguously, more likely). I meant the separate page attached to the CTFTourney page much like how the Ladle has an Operations page and a Results page (like you mentioned). I was going to suggest a page for itself.

And what I meant by this was that it is something outside of the tournament on the day the tournament happens. Of course it's completely tied to the tournament, and thus should be somewhere (even if in another "tab") on the Brawl wiki page.
