Ladle Stats (Finally)

Post by sinewav »

http://wiki.armagetronad.org/index.php/Ladle/Statistics

Lots of work to be done, but we now have a stats page to record Ladle data, manually. But it will work for now until someone gets the urge to create a multi-dimensional database. Or even a spreadsheet plugin for that page. Whatever.

TODO List:
  • Style the table (borders, alignment)
  • Add more categories
  • Make up some really neat-o formulas for combining data other than "win/visit" haha (it's just there as an example)
  • Document the process and criteria
  • Possibly combine some teams under one alias, if appropriate
Finally, I guess we need some volunteers to keep this page up / improve it. Lot's of fun possibilities here.

I'm not sure if anything should be posted beyond the raw data. Any special formulas have problems. Of course the raw data should be organized in ways like you already did.

Thanks for starting this. I made one minor correction to your table, but the rest was great.

Update:

After many, many hours of painstaking work, I've compiled a list of global stats into a spreadsheet. In the future I will update and attach it to the current Ladle thread, post-event.

I changed the wiki page to show only the current year. Since having a global list in a spreadsheet is more practical, I think it will be more interesting (and way, way less work) to only keep the most relevant info on the wiki, by year. Of course, this also helps if we decide in the future to use these stats for some sort of end-of-year playoffs. ;)

In addition, I added a section named "milestones." Feel free to contribute other milestones you find. Two milestones that are very relevant as of last Ladle (53) are these:
  • :done: Crazy Tronners won their 200th match. well done guys.

:done: United N00bs of Armagetron broke their incredible loosing streak by wining their first match. Keep up the good work. 2012 is your year! :D

Very nice to know that rZ has a long way to go before setting the record for longest losing streak! And WD una on finally ending it

For the milestones, wouldn't it be a better idea to put down most consecutive semifinals? Saying "most consecutive seeds" limits the record to teams post-Ladle 37.

From a short review, it seems like x has the record with 10 consecutive semifinals from Ladle 10-19.

Although then again, it's likely mym will pass that record in 3 ladles.

That's a good point. Go ahead and add whatever you want. We can have both too. The reason I added the ones I did is because those are the ones I noticed while collecting the data. I wasn't "looking" for milestones, I just happened to see those.

We can have all manner of milestones. It's pretty much whatever you want it to be. One thing I'd like to see is "longest winning streak" and "most perfect Ladles" (no lost matches). But as you see, I've been spending the last two days making that spreadsheet, with took an incredible amount of concentration, haha. I did notice other things like Plus+ being the first team to have 3 squads (followed by SP about 10 Ladles later). While that is interesting, that's not really an achievement, right?

So yeah, anytime you get the feeling and want to look for interesting stats, go for it man.

What I'd really like to see is interesting interpretations of the data. I know some of you stats geeks are drooling right now, so I'll just sit back and see what you come up with. ;)

Edited.
@sine how did you determine which of the first two matches una won?

I went back to look for most consecutive wins but I've hit a roadblock because of that.

I'd be really interested in seeing individual statistics as well. Things like: most points in a match, most points in a 2-match game, most points in a 3-match game.

I didn't! How could I know from the results page? :D

Now that you brought it up, I decided to go look at the recording to see because it is quite an interesting milestone. Looks like UNA won the second match, which brings their losing streak to 39. I edited that. I also put back the mYm record for seeds because it's also kind of interesting and I think just as meaningful as X-Clan's 10 semi-final visits. Why? Because back then the Ladle wasn't as big, and especially in the cases of L-07 and L-08, the semi-final and the opening round were the same, haha. (Both of which X-Clan lost, BTW.)

And maybe this really is the year of UNA. Check out this screen-grab of UNA's perfectly straight and perfectly sustained sweepbox... Nice work.

I looked back, and it seems as if R is definitely in first with 14 consecutive match wins during Ladles 38 and 39. But Arrow could possibly be tied for their run during Ladles 21 and 22. The recording for the relevant arrow match isn't here, so there's no way to find out unless someone has a screenshot or recording.
All of this looking around and still not being sure of an answer makes me think that perhaps the better metric to use would be most games won in a row and most games lost in a row. Although I suppose we could have both.

Sure! Originally, when I was posting the longest losing streak I simply said "19 Ladles," but changed my mind to "matches" at the last minute. It's all good man, go crazy if you want. And with the winning streak, you can easily give it to both teams. There are only going to be a couple of us looking at this stuff anyway.

I'm interested in finding out the players who won the most ladles. I've heard of some people with over 10, people like fofo, and flex, but I don't really know how many other people got over 10 wins and also how many wins they got exactly. Does anyone have more information on this stuff?
