Freezing OSX Lion

Post by 112wicked112 »

Hey all,

I have a 2011 Macbook air and armagetron freezes up on me randomly. I'll be playing a game nine then it will freeze for 10 seconds and then for the next minute ii plays like I have 99999999 ping when in fact my ping is <90.

The laptop is running osx Lion and the graphics card is an integrated intel HD3000. The processor is a core i7 1.8ghz and all other games run smoothly with no freezing or anything.

What should i do to fix arma :(?

Edit: This is using the newest version of arms for mac.

Freezes like that could be due to simple overload; our strict use of old style, shaderless, single textured OpenGL is not anything modern GPUs are optimized for. What FPS do you get, approximately? If it's > 100, you'll want to enable VSync somewhere in the graphics driver options, that will bring it down to a sensible rate that is less stressful for your hardware.

hmm... good point!

I get 350+ fps

There isn't a way to control the graphics options in OSX Lion though for the Intel HD3000.

Sometimes it even freezes on the menu :(

I'll try and record it to catch it :)

That won't be of much use, I'm afraid. It's clearly a hardware related problem, all the recording is going to show is that yep, there's a freeze.

You could try one of dlh'\s recent trunk builds, they offer the option to control the VSync behavior from within the game.

In order to adjust graphics settings for my card (ATI Radeon 9600), I had go download a separate, standalone utility. Might there be something similar for that Intel?

I believe ATI offered the only such utility. An in-game switch shouldn't behave differently, though. :)

Well, that's lame. The impression I've gotten is that Windows has a built-in way to configure the graphics card settings, is that right? Strange that Macs wouldn't, especially now that they have the Intels, and Intel won't release a utility. It could fit in the "Displays" system preferences. Oh well.

It's not builtin on Windows, it just so happens that every major manufacturer offers the setting in their advanced display configuration.

Ok, where can I find the setting in these trunk builds? and where are they located?

For Mac, they are here: http://generalconsumption.org/armagetronad/download
The last one is mirrored here: https://launchpad.net/armagetronad/+mil ... -universal

The setting is in System Settings/Display Settings/Screen Mode and called VSync. Put it to "Wait".
