Game Client Crashes
Game Client Crashes
Hey so I have been having this problem ever since I got my new computer and installed tron on here. Every 15 - 30min or so my game will just crash for no reason. The window just closes, no warning or anything.
I am on a brand new computer so I know its not the computer.
I am on Windows 7 if that makes any difference.
EDIT: Oh and I think im on game client 2.8.3.1
I would love some help trying to fix this, thanks guys.

Re: Game Client Crashes
Double check that your graphics driver is up to date
If you're not that knowledgeable about drivers you should check windows update for one first, otherwise go to the manufacturers website and get the latest one.
Or vice versa depending on what you have done already

Re: Game Client Crashes
Hm ok they are update, I checked recently. It's weird cause I play a few other computer games and this only happens with Tron. And another weird thing is I've noticed it only happens when I play Sumo, DF or Fort. I've been racing a lot and I realized that I can sit in the racing server for hours and not crash but when I am in the other game types for 20min or so.. I crash.
Re: Game Client Crashes
Hm I don't know then and I don't think this problem has ever been solved?
All I know is when it was happening to me I uninstalled my graphics driver and replaced it with the one from windows update and it stopped crashing. At least that's what I know I changed. This was ages ago though & the latest drivers work fine now
Make a debug recording & maybe z-man & co. will be able to see what's wrong

Re: Game Client Crashes
Ok, maybe i will try reinstalling the drivers again but in the meantime how do i make a debug recording? I have never done that
Re: Game Client Crashes
Ok well here is the recording.
I updated my drivers earlier and it still happened, i think the recording is like 540 seconds long or something

Re: Game Client Crashes
Patience, analyzing these things takes time. What I've done so far:
-Played it back on linux. No crash there.
-Played it back on the Mac, which also has an ATI Mobile chip (and I already observed some crashes on it a while back, but attributed them to the system generally starting to fall apart under load). Unfortunately, there the playback fails.
I still need to try Windows playback; the next step would be to use Bugle or some other analysis tool to check whether we are calling something wrong in certain circumstances. For that, I could use some more information: best just post your user.cfg (remove all passwords, of course) and tell me which moviepack you're using, if any.
In the meantime, to make the crashes happen less often, you may want to just enable VSync in your graphics driver. Less FPS means less opportunity to crash. Also, play with the Display List option in the Performance tweaks of the graphics setup, especially turning it off may help.

Re: Game Client Crashes
Sorry, just wanted to make sure my post doesn't get lost among everything else. Sounds like we are getting somewhere though, thanks for the help. I will link my .cfg file below as well as mess with some of the settings you told me to.
As for moviepack I am just using the default one, haven't changed it.
EDIT: Also I thought I would mention that yesterday I was told I am not the only one experiencing this problem I think there are a few other people with the same problem such as Appa and one other which I forgot.

Re: Game Client Crashes
Any luck yet here ZMan?
Its really weird, I can play in a racing server as long as I want with no crashes but as soon as I enter any other type of game type I have 10 - 20min.
And Just about everytime before I crash all of the light cycles turn white and it crashes a few seconds later.

Re: Game Client Crashes
The light cycles turning white (like they got snowed on) used to happen to me all the time on my old computer. But a crash never followed the event.
Re: Game Client Crashes
Yeah thats exactly what happens to me
Re: Game Client Crashes
It's also, IIRC, the symptom of sinewav's crash we were never able to pinpoint
I have the OpenGL call log of the last frame., but a) its 8000 calls and impossible to analyze per hand and b) if there are errors before the crash, the last frame is not important at all and the error can be in any of the previous frames. Sooo... not a good way to proceed.
Ok, but I think you have new information: racing is unaffected. Racing still has zones, right? The only thing missing from racing, typically, are the long trails. Could you post a short recording of you on a racing server so I see just how short they are? Or just point me to the servers that work for you?

Yeah I play in Tronner.com Dallas, TX Racing Test.
Or something like that.
I'll let you know if any more information comes up.
