I have to say I agreed with you a couple of years ago INW, but then I decided to try listening to some Eminem and other rap, and I have to say, I thought most of the songs were crap, but some of them were actually good and fun to listen to. There is an argument, as some people will always like it and some will not, it's just up to you to find the music that you like. Stop beating down others for the music they like.

From where I sit, "It's a reference!" is as much a valid justification as "It was meant as a joke!" That is to say, not valid at all. Otherwise, with the vast reservoir of arbitrarily obscure material to reference available, you could use it to excuse anything.
