Problems watching playbacks of old ladles

Post by Hi.dTp »

Hey guys i recently wanted to watch some of the old ladles, like ladle 31, on my Mac OS X to observe and learn a little from watching the finals. I know these ladles are recorded using .2.8.3 so i made sure to download that. I tried using the recorder that came along with the armagetron advanced application and tried to run the recording, but every time, about 15 seconds into the recording, it will say connection timed out. Its not just with ladle 31 too, I tried ladle 32 as well and the same thing would happen, it would randomly lose connection early into the recording. I made sure that I did not press anything except z and x, so i'm just a little confused why it keeps losing connection? If anyone had any suggestions on how to fix this, i'd appreciate it. thanks

Recordings aren't a very reliable playback system across platforms. First make sure the Recorder app is launching the correct Armagetron Advanced application (AA Recorder menu -> Set AA location). If it's still crashing, sometimes fast-forwarding a little will allow the entire recording to playback.

Had this problem myself. Simply don't do anything. Don't chat, don't change any settings, as soon as the recording opens, don't change anything for at least 30 seconds. You can move from player to player (I believe zman uses z and x for left/right) but appart from that, not great idea to do much else.

When z-man enters a server, I believe he doesn't press anything when the splash screen comes up, so neither should you. Don't press anything until the match has started, seems to cure any problems I have.

one question, I recorded few games with zone_height 0.5 and when I watch the recording, it's on 5. how do I fix that without crashing the program?

Have you actually tried changing it when watching the recording? I know I can change zone_alpha when watching without it crashing for example

I tried changing it but it crashed. I have a bunch of console lines that I put everytime I open the game (change floor to completely black etc). it makes the game look smoother. do I have to go to the .cfg file and change it there or something like that?

Put those visual settings into autoexec.cfg or similar. They are loaded from there during playback start.

ahh got one more problem. I recently reformated my Mac to Snow Leopard and installed some updates.. I didn't have this problem before -

when I want to record something, I open Armagetron Recorder, and click Start recording. to here it works fine, it shows "Recording..." but no Armagetron client opens? And if I open Armagetron, I can play but it doesn't record. There's no "stop recording" button so I manually close it, but the recording (file) doesn't save (I chose to save it on desktop).

my english sucks, but does anyone have solution?

Did you change the location of the Armagetron application? Double-check the "Set Armagetron Advanced Location" menu option.

you're right, some weird window popped out at the first time, I don't know exactly what I did but it was something about the file location that I had to change. how exactly do I fix it?

Open the recorder. On the top left next to the apple logo it will now say 'Armagetron Advanced Recorder'. Click that and the second drop down from that menu should say 'Set Armagetron Advanced Location'. Then just select Arma from wherever you have it installed.
