No sound after installation

I am running ubuntu 10.04 and armagetron was running fine until I installed the .package file from this site. I noticed that the sound no longer works. reinstallation doesnt work either. When I run it through terminal it says Sound Initialisation Failed. I suggest you guys find a fix to this error.

Sound should work. I'd like to blame pulse audio.

To be sure, what version specifically are you referring to by "latest stable release." Sound in 0.3 (an explicitly experimental version, something which a lot of players don't seem to know, and are under the impression is the current official version) is apparently broken.
