Re: Sumo Bar Tournament
Maybe for the final have a sort of elimination, have 1 match with 8 players, when that ends the bottom 2 are eliminated, after the 2nd match the bottom 2 again are eliminated. Then you have 4, and can either make that the final match or eliminate the bottom 2 again, leaving you with a 1v1 final.

Re: Sumo Bar Tournament
The idea sounds good, but no 1v1 final, that's a different style of play.
Re: Sumo Bar Tournament

my best guess about the finals would be either the top 4 or top 8 top 8 would be better i guess
Re: Sumo Bar Tournament
As you can see in my first post, I first intended the final match would be between the top 4 players from the "semi final", so a light version of your elimination system. But if possible it'd be cool to have the final consisting of 8 players. Though I think the match should be longer, and "first to two" is simply not an option because that allows for, theoretically, 9 full matches; 90 rounds. Everyone would be bored at the end, I'm sure.ppotter wrote:Maybe for the final have a sort of elimination, have 1 match with 8 players, when that ends the bottom 2 are eliminated, after the 2nd match the bottom 2 again are eliminated. If anything, we'll simply make limit_rounds 20 in the final for a better climax.
Well, I certainly see what you mean, but I've explained this before in this thread. (although maybe not clearly enough, I'll word it better in the rules I'm writing later)INW wrote:text
Seeing as the match can't end mid-round by someone reaching a score limit (because there is none), the only way to get points "after the message" is if you win the 10th round, in which case that's still part of the match. Of course that counts! If "Player 5" works their ass off in the last round and manages to get enough points at the end, of course he deserves his 4th spot! Tough luck for the former "Player 4", but it's not unfair at all! And to be quite honest, I don't think the message appears until after everyone's dead. I'll investigate.
So basically, the 10th round won't end until it's over, so there's not much room for the kind of accidents you mention.
AND to everyone else: I'm really excited that you've shown so much interest so far, partly on the forums but even more so on the grid! It's far beyond my humble expectations ;)
With all of you playing, the tourney is gonna be so much fun! I'll get working on the wiki in the coming days :)

Re: Sumo Bar Tournament
I really like this idea, unfortunately I won't be able to play on that date. Hopefully this tournament will be held more often then.
Re: Sumo Bar Tournament
So if the best four advance from each match, and you get 4 really good players in one of the opening rounds, they'll stay together for a long time, with 4 new people being added to their matches each time, only to be dispatched?
I'd get bored of playing the same 4 people again and again...
Perhaps the 4 top players get mixed up in the next round etc.

No, those 4 would move on to face another 4 that have moved on.
It would be quite interesting to keep playing with enemies along the way, I actually really like the idea.

Re: Sumo Bar Tournament
I haven't yet decided whether all the winners from a round will be moved on to the same next match as eachother. I agree with your point and I'm trying to work out the smoothest way to deal with it.
Thanks for your constructive or otherwise positive posts people :)

Sounds Great!

Re: Sumo Bar Tournament
Ok I'm making the wiki for this tourney. (well "making" is an exaggeration, I'm stealing parts from the WST, ladle and my own old wiki pages ^^)
Unless someone comes up with a genius way to solve it in another way, it looks like all 4 winners will move on to the same match as eachother. Partly because it's less likely to cause major general confusion, but also because of the EU/US idea I'm borrowing from the TST.
So yeah, when you sign up (I'll open signups on Friday or Saturday), you get to decide where you want to play (EU/US) the first round (and you'll get to stay there for as long as possible). Of course, it won't be completely even so the ones who sign up last will have to endure a compromise of some sort. (If it sounds weird it'll make more sense later).
The finals will be played in Eu - Empha's server of course! (assuming he wants to donate a server
)
You'll sign up with your Global ID, and you won't be able to hide your login during the tournament.
However, because of this, you'll be free to change your name while playing.
I'll post the link to the wiki once I figure out how to make the brackets

We stole the majority of the WST layout from the ladle.Titanoboa wrote:Ok I'm making the wiki for this tourney. (well "making" is an exaggeration, I'm stealing parts from the WST, ladle and my own old wiki pages ^^)
