Ok, this was fun as long as it was one or two stories per post and per day, but this is plain silly. We can follow the news on our own perfectly well and your spam makes it LESS likely anyone will click on anything you post. Keep it down, please.

That's a good start getting back towards a normal output, but I know you can restrain yourself more.

I'm starting to suspect you work for a major news outlet and are turning this forum into a link-farm for some failed idea of search engine optimization. Can your websites/links be any more generic and plain? I thought you were some sort of radical thinker?

I don't want to appear as some conspiracy freak so yes I skim the generics. No I don't work for a big media company I am 100% independent. You know my history here on this forum do you really think I might have an agenda in sharing some news?

This here is amusing to me that a major gaming network got hacked. I just cant wait until they crack the 360. I loved having a modified X-Box. The PlayStation 3 was too easy though, the hardware was designed with alternate OS in mind and the linux community was on dat chit like white on rice. It was only a matter of time before one of us linux hackers would wriggle our way into the free gaming network provided by Sony.

Umm, no. Linux has nothing to do with it. Someone probably used the SSL certificates from the decrypted firmware and the decrypted firmware code to gain enough insight into the workings of PSN to do some harm. AFAIK, there was zero protection beyond SSL and the secret client certificates, all data was transmitted as plaintext (credit card data included). And it has been a running gag in the, umm, scene (? mostly loud know-nothing-kids demanding stuff) that Sony's reaction to any kind of exploit is to shut down the possibly affected systems. At least they were quite thorough so far, so it can be expected all flaws they find will be fixed when things go back online. The only question is when.

That's from 2007. Or even 2006. And reality by now, provided you can live with the disadvantages.

thanks for the clarification, I don't know much about ssl but I think I accessed the ssl of my modem once. As far as the xbox deal I just was looking around for anything that might signal a linux Kernel for the system... Do you know of anything more up to date? I have an older hacker friend trying some stuff with the X-box but havent heard anything recent as far as that whole situation goes.

No vulnerability of up to date XBoxes (new from the shop or with the latest firmware updates) is currently known, but if you can get hold of older revisions, they're fully hackable and run anything you want, including Linux with limited hardware support. I don't think hardware accelerated 3D graphics work, though. And the more recent hack requires hardware fiddling to get going. JTAG would be the key word to search for.
