Is it easy to learn how to code a map? I don't know where to start.

There's probably some pages on the wiki that explain, but imo it's easiest to just take a map and look at the code (you can just open an xml file with a text editor).

Either way, spawning points are not very flexible, so the starting positions as in your image are impossible. Basically all you can do is set one position for the whole team, and play a bit with two settings; SPAWN_WINGMEN_SIDE which defines the parallel spacing between the bikes, and SPAWN_WINGMEN_BACK which defines the distance every row is placed behind the previous one. As such players are always in a V (or reverse V for negative SPAWN_WINGMAN_BACK) formation.

IMHO the only thing I would change for the WST map is the grow rate and size, but I think we are still far away from finding one specific start which always beats any other.

I use armabell and then make some small edits when I look at the xml.

It is a great tool that still works.

I have to say playing titanoboa's 3v3 map is very fun, it's intense and totally unpredictable.

We've tested my map 3v3 and it's working great. It'd be very interesting to see some structured teamwork on that map.

To use:

Code: Select all

RINCLUDE wst_settings.cfg(http://crazy-tronners.com/resource/wst/wst_settings.cfg)
SIZE_FACTOR 1
MAP_FILE Titanoboa/sumo/wst-1.4.aamap.xml

I suggested we could try a mini-WST next month, with maybe 8 teams max, to test it in a competitive way?

4 rounds (staggered), 4 servers, 3 hour tournament. :)

I have a server up and I must say, the spawns are interesting. I have not been able to collect 3v3 teams but maybe later tonight I will.

If there is enough support, we may change the map. I am just unsure if the amount of support needed will be met.

I do support it, it has many new possibilities and feels more sumo than fort. I'd support dariv's idea of a tournament, too.

A little off topic:
I added some more spawns as a little idea...
if you take this map (attachment), put size_factor 3, spawn_wingmen_side 70, spawn_wingmen_back -100
it looks (almost) exactly like the empha's sumo bar map, only with 4 teams, 3 players each...

maybe that has some non-tournament use :)

Tested my map in a more "srs" environment, played a few matches with dariv, eckz, chah, MB53 and vov. Later on, olive, Lackadaisical and wap joined in as players left.

It definitely holds as a map, and I think it would bring more variance to wst gameplay. Practically, it just skips the 30-second intro of a wst round as we know it. You get the fun part faster.
The zone is smaller, but not so small that a single binder can't roam around the outskirts and attack. And any mediocre mazer should be able to stay alive w/ the chunk of space he gets at start.

In addition, I think it would be much more fun to watch this map being played in wst semi's and final.

It still needs to be tested further though. Maybe 2 of the teams from this WST (that reached at least quarters) could gather for a friendly match on my map? That'd be a great test.

Would it be possible to let me know when this will occur or let someone know so that they can record the gameplay and post it on the forums for all to see?
