Moviepack_Classic_Beauty

Post by biobern »

Hi, I'm new here. :-)

I always liked Armagetron, since about 10 years. I even used it as a kind of screensaver just for the beauty. What I did not like is that it renders rather ugly at nowaday's high resolutions like 1920x1200.

What I did now was hand painting high resolution rim walls that look like in the original movie. The walls and the floor also have the c00l bluegrey-with-a-touch-of-green look of the 70s datacenters that was also used in the original movie.

The rather complex "cycle.ase" is not from me, it's the most beautuful that I could find.

I also added the alternative "font.png" from TR2N Origins. Copy it into the textures-folder. It renders a bit more beautiful at high resoulutions (but the original small font used in the HUD still renders very ugly). I heard that Armagetron 0.3.0 and 0.4.0 use a real ttf-font but I was not able to find Win32-binaries of these betas. Anybody help?

You can add further beauty by switching anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering to "16x" or so with your graphic card's external software.

This moviepack is (at least) compatible to Armagetron Advanced 0.2.8.3.1 and TR2N Origins 0.4.4.

Boxed, knock it off. That kind of stuff is frowned upon here. Please edit your post.

biobern, can you upload a screenshot or two of your moviepack? You'll get a better response if people see a preview.

I am also frowning.

But smiling in welcome to the new folks... Welcome! It looks nice. I don't think we've had any takes on the original Tron graphics for quite some time so this is definitely an update.

There's even an entry at wikipedia about "Bodenständig"

Popstars! :o
I finally think about giving moviepacks a try now, once for biobern's work and also for theMatty's (http://forums3.armagetronad.net/viewtop ... 47&t=21139).

Here is the screenshot. Looks very similar to other classic moviepacks, I know. But I did not find something with high resolution and without mud and artefacts. I also tried to manipulate stills from the original movie DVD, but this is all to blurry. So I hand painted this one.

Check it out!

Thanks for the link! I tried this on both of my Win32-machines. Looks veeery messy at 1920x1200 IMHO. At 1024x768, it looks better. I also tried some alternative cockpits. The essential cockpit from raine looks acceptable and bug free at high resolutions.
The new font system is good, sound is broken. I_ll try further things....
Are there any newer versions around? This one seems to be two years old.....

I haven't tried any so far :P But yours looks so retro and theMatty's so futuristic that I can't resist anymore.

Hi again.
I'm just doing a minimalistic cockpit for Armagetronad 0.3 and up. It will be included in with Moviepack_classic_beauty_0.2. Check the screenshot. Could anybody tell me why the fonts in the cockpits are always rendered to about half of they actual width? This looks ugly and wrong. "Size height" changes the font size, "size width" does just change the empty spaces, but not the font width. Any ideas? Thanks.....

Hi everybody,
you can download V0.2 of Classic_Beauty from here:
http://bodenstaendig.de/armagetron/

It also contains a beautiful freeware font and a minimalistic cockpit for V0.3 and up.
The problem with the wrong aspect ratio of the font when used in the cockpit still remains, so it looks kinda ugly, but that's all i can do.

I think I'll just wait for a new windows binary now. As far as I can see, the development is sooo slooooooow...IMHO! V0.3_alpha8870 is 2 years old and full of graphical chaos and the sound is nearly completely broken. I somewhere found a newer build but it was even worse in every aspect i could see. How comes? Is this a trick of the Linux hippies to keep the Windows users away? Anybody please tell me how this project works??? I don't get it.

Whatever...I think I'll just have to wait for some more years now.....
Still a great game. Still much better than the official Tron Evolution game from Disney. I don't give up the hope...
Have fun with a bit of classic_beauty...
