fictional script

Post by 2020 »

I was thinking of writing a fictional account of tron pro-players in the future. Probably short stories, perhaps a book.

My character development skills are not brilliant. I have focussed most of my writing on being plain and descriptive. However, I have played around with techniques to produce a multiple-narrative multiple-authored text. The idea is, I establish opening scenarios, and author-players respond live to one another as their characters meet in the story world. To make things easy, each author-player simply imagines themselves in the story scenario and just engages as they would normally. No need to invent characters, since the characters are you.

I am planning a simple scenario to start off, and wonder if anyone would like to take part? We should be able to write something up in a month, say. If we are happy with this, we present it publically, and if this goes well, we embark on another, perhaps more sophisticated story line, with a few more layers of intrigue etc.

Ideally, the player-authors will determine what their characters say and do, and I play the role of "physics engine" to ensure that various characters engage with minimum reality splitting. Blaa.

So, anyone wanting to take part? No literary skill required, just be yourself. It will involve reading a little to get a notion of the scenario, and then using eg IRC or skype (or even email) to record dialogue when their characters engage in the story world. Please indicate the time you may be able to allocate in terms of role:

primary role where you have plenty of time to devote
supporting role where you are willing to dedicate some time
extra where you can participate once, one line, which I can include in the background text

Concord wrote two stories like this on playfortress.

I might try it, either Primary or support.

Sounds like it could be fun, but my personal being and mind has a tendency to drift into becoming totally fictitious instead of myself. After all, I thought I did six impossible things this morning.

But, I only have this board/email.
" Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something."
-Plato
Ok, but why did I add this signature? I was like 15 and thought I was smart? What a brat.

Cosmic, you are forbidden to work on other writing projects until you finish Red&Yelo. Now get back to work.

hmmm
looks like it is the familiar problem...
players are just too keen on the game
they just don't want to do anything else but
hit the grid!

can't blame them...

A really good documentary of a single Ladle would be fascinating if we could collect tons of player interviews after the fact to really make it a story.

We'd also need to record every game, and if one can change textures and playback the recording we could do some nice stuff visually. The key is the editing, finding the right video to show each match, finding the storyline. It'd be a ton of work.

nice idea
concs
but requires a lot of buy-in from everyone

if every player recorded visual blogs for the month leading up to the ladle
while they play etc
hand it over
could be a tonne of work going through it for sure
but it could be alleviated if they could highlight some stuff they think might be insightful etc

gathering the politcs
the threads of voting
interpersonal fracas
the rivalry between the teams

day in the life of the actual day's play
setting up the time
making sure people don't bother them

i remember telling my flatmates
and they wouldn't use the net during the ladle
and they were programmers using the net all the friggen time

throw in a couple of curve balls
forcing all players to record what they think about eg tronic progression
or school educational system
or politics
or whatever

but yes
it would have to be something that is more like a video
rather than written
because our writing skills are more attuned to blog posting etc

nice idea though
but i don't think the community is tight enough for something like this to happen

i have given up trying to suggest we do something that requires significant social teamwork...
ladle seems to be about it...
hence
i have re-jigged my thinking to make sure it is something within the remit of
producing something of high enough quality and within my sphere of influence --
alignment to a higher goal tends to get mis-perceived too easily

(just got off skype from a major conversational flow
sorry about the verbal diarrhoea)

or we could ask each to record their thoughts on a different specific clip of footage after the fact.

we could also write something fictional, and if well done, that may prove more powerful.

yup
the original idea was to write fiction
but
your idea reminds me of ideas we had way back
when we thought about producing a documentary film thing

i am starting to write

there are so many angles to this game
and we have pursued a lot of their potential over the years
at least just imagining them...

i am thinking of
"any given sunday"
as a stylistic yard-stick

if i don't get enough players to flesh out the script while writing
there's always the opportunity in post-production/editing
