i would probabally say hardest is sweeper in fort. when your a sweeper you often have several attackers that are trying to kill you before they go for the def, while trying to keep the def safe, if a sweeper holes his own defense thats not good, thats why i think its the most important and hardest position to play.

I voted for defending because it's personally hardest for me. I can't really yet predict attackers, and that's in addition to keeping track and planning my own tail. There are really a lot of things to consider as defender. You're always acting, and reacting. As any other position (with the exception of center), you're able to just drive away for a while and give yourself the necessary thinking time.

As someone who has played all 4 different positions in clan/ladle matches at different times, I think that center is the hardest, with defender following at a close second.

As titan said, when you are a center, you need to react to every moment differently as it comes a long because no two rounds are the same. The person with the fastest thinking and the fastest fingers will win. There is no general plan you can use that will always let you block (with the exception of a early split) or even stay alive as center.

Attacking is clearly easier in my mind because attackers have the same duties as center players except instead of turning outward after double binding, the center has to try to block the opponent center, outmaneuver the opponent center, and also try to center the other team sometimes.

With the current state of defense being that it is nearly impossible to enter without a hole, being a sweeper is very similar to being an attacker: when you are a sweeper, you try to kill the attackers and then you go up to hole, and when you are an attacker, you try to kill the sweepers and then hole. The main differences are when you are a sweeper, you get the defender's support, but you also need to block holes/torps. It seems like these two things nearly balance out and the difficulty of being a sweeper is about as hard as being an attacker.

I think defense is the second hardest position. The defender needs to look out for a wide variety of things while playing, mainly holes, enemies, and teammates. So a wide field of view is necessary. The defender needs to know when to expand, when to stay inside base and play safe, when to turn around to block a torpedo, and when to go for a kill.

Note: I don't mean to say that the best centers are better than the best defenders or sweepers or attackers or that the average center is better than the average player of another position. I'm just stating my belief that it takes more skill to be an effective center than it does to be effective at any other position.

almost everyone can be a sweeper or attacker, but not center or defender (the old way of defending, not the crap of def almost everyone got lately) and be succesful trying. In my mind, center is harder (sometimes), then attack, then defense, then sweeping. I would even say that with the "new fort" and the "new style" defender is the easiest position. There should also be some kind of clarification on the question... with the hardest position you mean the hardest to master? Because if it's this way i'd say attacking is the hardest to master. Not everyone can make a good cut against an experienced defender :)

Or static mediocrity. :/

Maybe. But I still think it's very cool that all these positions have unique responsibilities and a matching set of techniques to master.

Also, where is Midfielder? I guess nobody really considers it. Maybe it's because serious play is centered around 6v6. Add one more player and suddenly you have a new, dynamic, and challenging position.

Generally its centre, because they have several jobs to do, under stress, as it has been explained.

But from time to time, the defender will be depended upon to stay alive the whole round, constantly playing. When defending, you can't slip up, or just take a few seconds to relax. You are always constantly on the lookout, following your trail, expanding, hiding, etc.

And sometimes you are relied on in extreme situations, like 3 or 4v1, and perhaps can win... and if you don't it does look a bit like you let the team down...

Yeah that's funny actually, that the last player alive gets the blame, not so often in 1v3 or 1v4, but sometimes after 1v2.
I agree that it can look like the one(s) alive when their zone collapses are the one(s) to blame, which mostly isn't true (dare I say in at least 9 out of 10 cases).

the only difference between the attacking and center position is the launch and the seconds after the split.

For me, it's easier to grind and split as a wingman than blocking + attacking the enemy center.

EDIT: oops, was talking about attacking and center.

+1 for Potter. Anyone can block the initial attack by splitting left/right. Mastering it though is a different story. You can tell how important sweeping is by comparing the usefulness of sweepers on a mediocre team (no names mentioned) compared to that of a great team.

All positions have their hard rounds, just depends on the team. I'd have to go with center though. The situation is constantly changing, like everyone has already said, and requires some FAASSTT reaction times. Center has to kill, block, survive, and possiby center attack.
