Rotating the lang file

Post by dukevin »

When I change the lang files, I can make it say "player1 took the football home" instead of "good flag handling".
In my server, I plan to have rotating game configs and maps, but I was wondering if it were possible to change the lang file mid-game as well? This would let me have a football configured lang then when match ends, map rotates to CTF with CTF configured lang.

Can this be done? Is there a work around?

You can't rotate the language files themselves, they are loaded only once per runtime. But what you can rotate is the default language to use.You need to define your custom language files as new languages instead of overriding English strings.

How would we go about rotating the default language to use?

LANGUAGE_FIRST would be the setting to change.

Another possible way to do this having the language file seem to rotate after each round would be to require people to use clients capable of understanding the MOVE_TO command at the end of each match. Much how many other games handle map changes. They have the client reconnect each time the map changes.

Thanks for the info! But to me, this seems quite impractical
