Ladle 39 Voting Discussion

Post by sinewav »

:) Hi!

It's that time again. I don't think there are any pressing matters at hand. The effects of seeding are still not obvious, so we should probably come back to it next quarter. The only thing I can think of right now are Ladle dates, as we decided to vote on them to help alleviate stress around holidays and world events.

DATES
Ladle 39: November 7th or November 14th
Ladle 40: December 5th or December 12th
Ladle 41: January 8th or January 15th *adjusted for New Year's Day

Looking over past few Ladle threads it was the same old stuff. Ladle 37 ran long, as some Ladles do. Everyone seemed to say what they wanted in the discussion previous to that. The alias discussion is dead until someone reinvent's the Interwebs. So yeah, I can't think of anything except voting to confirm the above days.

Anyone else have something to say regarding settings or management?

This ladle, we were unsure (based on the rules/guidelines) if we were allowed to use Lacka or not. (We were deciding right before the finals). We ended up just asking SP for permission, but we had to do so because the ladle rules were unclear. Maybe some more clarity could be useful? Just a thought.

What's going on with the start time when daylight savings time ends, is it being put forward an hour?

Yeah, it follows DST in the EU.

Lackadaisical was on the Challenge Board under your team name. There was no need to ask permission. He is one of your players. I think that's totally clear. However, if he wasn't on the board, then yes you should have asked permission. My interpretation of the rules is, once Ladle starts, no more changes. Play with the players on the Challenge Board.

Ouch. Titan added him to the board during the pre-bit of the finals (when everyone is getting onto teams and organising positions)

Yes, however, we made it perfectly clear (to our opponents) that we had searched the wiki, can get logs if you really want, and the rules were unclear;

Players listed on the Challenge Board are not allowed to switch or join another team under any circumstances in the hour before opening rounds.

Hence, we asked the team leader's permission to add a sub (who wasn't listed on the wiki whatsoever ~ observe loophole) to avoid confrontation and drama at a later point. They said it was fine and things continued. If it's not okay to do this, then the above rule needs to be revised. But as far as I'm concerned, having the consent of your opponent makes it fine.

I've never seen it as a problem that teams get subs during the ladle. And yes, he was added directly before the finals had started. Maybe rules for subbing should be made more clear.

About the start time: Did i understand it right, that for us europeans nothing changes? I was happy about being starting 1 hour earlier when summertime ends ...

The ability to add players should end during the Quarterfinals. I could imagine some player just subbing on in the finals no matter what team gets there.
That'd be funny, but no fun.

Sounds good to me

Yeah, let's define the substitute rules.
I had the impression that a team can sub in up to 2 players that aren't listed on the wiki at any time, as long as they're added to the wiki at some point.
Presuming these players haven't played for any other teams that ladle, of course.

i got a question, can some1 not signed up play for a team? like, tadd wasn't added to challange board cause no one know he would appear. Could he play (if his connection didn't suck)? if not, could we just add him to tthe wiki in the hour before the ladle?

(tadd wasn't in any team)

The intention behind the current rule revisions is to prevent team switching. All changes stop one hour before Ladle, and only players on the Challenge Board can play.

But of course, the use of aliases gets you around most of the rules, so we could just as easily abandon them. I actually prefer less rules. Take a look at this idea Z-Man had and let me know what you think.

We currently have a bloated and complicated set of rules because of jerky people who want to cause trouble. But it's clear the community as a whole isn't big on punishment, so nothing is really going to stop people from being jerks in the future. So why not give ourselves more freedom? I would like to abandon player sign-ups on the Challenge Board completely because they are kind of meaningless (team captains need to stay signed up for authority reasons). With "optional" player sign-ups, the only rule we have to worry about it "you can't play for two teams." Simple.

No nothing will change because it will start an hour later to compensate

We just add an hour to the time table on the Challenge Board. After 31 October we play at 18:45 GMT.
