Re: World Cup?
Seems like there is more players that have reached the level of skill to take part and want to organize something like this. I'd be willing to help out with whatever I would be needed for (making a wiki page possibly). Slov is probably right, individual nations would have to vote on a team leader, and then get a roster together.
Re: World Cup?
It'd be nice to actually have a world cup with each nation only represented once. No 4 teams from the US.
Specific to the US: I'm suggesting we elect a non-playing coach to select and organize a team.

Re: World Cup?
We should make a deal which countries could play together since there are too less players from just one specific country to make a team (like Slovenia, Scotland etc.)
Only slavs I know are Milan, Slash, Animal, sealion + me? Anybody else?

Re: World Cup?
I don't know how much I want to get involved in the planning and coordination of this event, but here's a possible method for organizing teams.
Step 1: Everybody signs up and states what country they live in.
Step 2: Players for each country represented are tallied (at the end of sign ups). Players from each country then elect a leader (preferably by 1 or more people offering to lead). The leader for each country will be elected by vote.
Step 3: Combine countries that don't have enough players. Let the leaders work out who they want to team up with, and the new combined team should probably vote for a head leader of those 2 original leaders.
Step 4*: Countries that have about 14+ players should split into multiple teams imo. The idea is to get everybody playing, no? Countries like the US and Britain could be split into geographic locations. US could be split into 2 or 3 sections via time zones, and maybe something with North/South Britain? I'm not too sure at this point.
And that's that.
*You might want to move this to directly after step 1.

Re: World Cup?
That's pretty much the plan Poke.
Though it wouldn't be a good idea to split the US based on timezones. There's way more people in the East then in the West.

Re: World Cup?
And once we get a roster for each nation, we could also do some sumo wars (team votes for top 3 players + subs) etc.

Re: World Cup?
I'll personally wait until the country I'm living in (Sweden currently, might change in the future) have enough to fill a team.
as for USA's seemingly stubborn wanting to sign up more than 1 team.. I don't think that'll benefit the cup at all. Same with countries joining in to make a combined team. Sure it'll be a small cup at first but what new amateur tourney ever starts big?

Re: World Cup?
i think it's better that small countries that can't make a team join together like slavs, spain+argentina, scotland+england etc.. sweden might have enough for a team but slovenia never will

Re: World Cup?
Can I request that people initially sign up with their country of residence. After the signup period, there should be a chance for you all to make requests/arguments/etc. for and against being placed in different countries.
Exceptions to this are: For example. I am living in the UK atm. If I decided to take a course for university that means I'll be spending the next 6 months in France, and the tourny is probably going to be held within the next 6 months, I will sign up for UK and not France.
Also, please don't sign up for more than one country... It's annoying sorting.
As for mixing countries: lets wait till we see how many sign up for each country...
Oh, and thanks to everyone so far for their support!

Sweden only has 1 ladle-playing swede afaik and that's me.
I guess my point is that if you wanna call it a world cup, each country should only be allowed to join with one team. And so what if your country doesn't have enough players - sux for you. You can still play in other tourneys.
Can't think of any sport that lets a country join in with more than one team just because they have more active players.
Re: World Cup?
well we don't have to be that serious
it's only a game...
