Feature Request: Stop Stupid Forum Moderation

This isn't a major issue, really, but it kind of goes along with what I've been saying for a while now...

The community isn't a courtroom and these forums are not the hallways of a high school. We don't need you as our hall monitors, principals, teachers, judges, lawyers, parents. We can do these things ourselves. Superiority/Authority... Merging... Locking... Editing... Just quit it.

I must respectfully disagree with the above post. I have found the forum moderation to be not only needed, but personally appreciated. Before the moderation was taking place, I was seriously considering ignoring this forum, as it had become too annoying. Also, the culture around here is a lot better, IMHO. I would hope the mods around here just continue to do the job they have been doing! Thank you very much for keeping my favorite forum on the web enjoyable.

Apparition, normally I really am a live and let live type of guy. I like to believe that people are reasonable and get will all get along. No this isn't a courtroom or a high school. But it isn't on the streets of New York City either. Sometimes some direction is needed. You're noticing it now because things got out of hand. Everything that made me a bad communicator in some respects earlier on in the forums history made me a good moderator then. It's more or less swung the other way around, and so personally I'm glad that I got Z-Man, Lucifer, and Epsy on the moderation train to see how they deal with these situations. It's better for the forums, more what I want to see, and to top it off a good learning experience for me.

Without Locking, merging etc. this Forum would just be a whole Playground for trolls, spammers and jerks. Imo, Tank + the Moderators have never done a bad decision. Topics just go offtopic way too fast; that makes Moderators, especially Z-Man loose nerves. Sorry appa, but if you don't like the decisions that Moderators have to make, you should leave this Forum. As I said, it's necessary for this Forum to merge/lock/etc, since we all like this Forum and we want to have fun here.

So please, quit whining.

A few years ago there was a better atmosphere on here. Moderation wasn't actually needed all that often. I'd like to have that back as well, but sadly just taking away moderation won't make it happen. If everyone manages to behave for a while, maybe they can start throttling back a bit.

I believe the moderation is done appropriately. I think this site is in better shape than it was last year because of the extra moderator. But I agree we should stop "stupid" forum moderation. Luckily there hasn't been any.

I guess I saw things a little differently. Nevermind about this. Maybe I'm an idealist? Bummer. Never thought I was. Thanks for posting guys. I was kind of in a bad mood last night (18 hours in surgery on 5 month old and then 6 hours in the car) and I kind of come here to chill out and it's been really hard to chill out here lately. I just want things to run smoother and I guess I was placing blame on moderation when that's not really the problem.
