New Server Not Working

Post by platnicat »

Hi all, I would have posted this in Server Admin, but I don't have the privileges. I have created a new map, called CozaStyle, that has 5 axes and some interesting stars in the corners. I've tried multiple times to use the "Host Game" option to test-host it, but to no avail. When I try to connect, It says that the mapfile is not in cache, and when it tries to download it, it can't. It appears to be trying to get it from resource.armagetronad.net, but I never did anything to get it there. I can ping it just fine, and I can connect to any other server, so what am I not doing?

Thanks,

OK first off, just play it offline.

Put the map in the right place (depending on the heading you gave for it), so a map of mine might be "syllabear/fort/funtest-0.0.1.aamap.xml", and this is put inside the included file, in the resource file, in the armagetron advanced system data file...

Then change your settings.cfg (make a copy before, so you don't lose it) so the MAP_FILE is the one that you want. This is in the config file in the armagetron advanced system data file...

Then play a local game

Already did that! If you use "Host Game", you have to have your MAP_FILE set to the map, or it'll just be a traditional game. I really need to know HOW to get it working with the online multiplayer, because it's a very fun map.

Either request a resource resp. account and upload it there when your account gets created or use one of the various map uploaders like, for example, pRu's

Thanks, that's much more helpful. Where can I do any of this? Google hasn't turned up much. :-(

Can you send me a copy of the map, including its name, and the location in your computer? via pm.

This may be your problem. Use the dedicated server, not your client. (Just my hunch, as I've no knowledge or interest regarding maps.)

OK, so I've gotten farther. I have the dedicated server set up on a 2.53 GHz P4 with 768 MB or RAM, and I can play local games on it happily. When I try to do an online game, however, it doesn't show up! I have TALK_TO_MASTER set to 1 in both my server_info.cfg and in my settings_custom.cfg. What am I doing wron... AHA! I just realized that I have port forwarding set to forward to my other computer, I'll post an update after I fix it.

How is anyone else going to play your map if you're the only one who has it? You still need to upload the created map somewhere

Oh, right, I forgot to mention that I used http://trongame.de/framework/index.php/upload/ to upload it. I have my MAP_FILE set correctly as well, and the 2 times I connected to the Online game (on a computer without the map) it worked great.
