I don't think it is.
If you want it to be on 16 because then new players will likely enter another server instead of coming in to annoy the players or sit and wait for a spot, then I agree that it should be 16. But again; I don't think it's obvious to most at all.

MAX_CLIENTS 20 for a few reasons. 4 slots so players can hang out and wait to join, or shoot video. More than 4 extra slots is inviting the possibility of reduced performance of the server.

The original cafe didn't have room for spectators. If your're going to bring it back, bring it back right.

Also, this is a much more powerful server that is hosting it, than it was before.

Really? Hmm... I remember seeing it full and not being able to get in. I guess we'd have to see a cfg from 2007, which is my earliest memory of that server. Anyone got it?

The config that kyle gave me, that was left behind by wrtlpft is for 16 slots. I have seen Fortress Cafe with 32 slots. I am not trying to start an argument here, but I firmly believe that specs can add to overall lag in a server. To many specs and you get spikes, etc. I have seen some lag bombs and spikes in the server. It may be that 8v8 is just going to do that. Especially when excellent players are pushing the envelope on what the server has to keep up with. Personally, I don't see anything else in config to tweak..

I would like this to be a "community" server, in that the community is providing input into the improvement for the server. Soon, I am considering adding dlh's gridstats to Fortress Cafe, TX Jumbo sumo, and TX Megafort. For the moment I really think that keeping the hole size to 2m is actually rather good. A lot of the players like it! Also, it has been mentioned that perhaps we ought to have multiple hole sizes. 2m, I think is great for n00bs, and nice to have large holes for pro's. Of course, the goal here is to attract n00bs and people just starting out in Fortress!
In the past Fortress Cafe served as a funnel to bring new people to fortress, and make them pro's. The hope is to continue that tradition, and perhaps improve upon it. Also, if others are interested in running it, I would love us to run a Fortress Cafe Tourney that is structured like Fortress Brawl was. Fortress Brawl, for those who weren't around at the time, was a Fortress tournament sponsored by the Twisted Rats Clan.
It was meant to draw more people to the game mode by getting n00bs (like me, /me is still a n00b) to be trained by experienced pro's. Sagelord led the team that I was on, and GoodyGumDrops was on it as well. I had just gotten my first server, a fortress server that I rented from luke-jr. SageLord and Goody spent a lot of time practicing with me, and teaching me the basics. The relationships formed there helped me get integrated into the Fortress Community, and to start playing in Fortress Cafe.
So, my goal with the server is very simple: Grow the Game, FTW!
