Cody: I'm sorry you feel excluded. I'm sure it's no comfort that your vote probably wouldn't have changed the results anyway. But maybe you can help us decide who should be included next time (if there is a next time)? What criteria should be used? You'll notice from the Ladle 37 Discussion Thread, we are trying to come up with a system of accountability for future Ladles. What would you suggest? Be as specific as you can.

I think Cody being unhappy at being left out is understandable. For the poll to be fair i think the criteria that chooses who votes should be fair as well.
A suggestion for polls like this next time:
a) Only team captains & server admins are allowed to vote. (Elected committee as well if we make them)
Also if there is more than one captain on a team then only one of them should be able to vote.
b) Everybody is allowed to vote

If this poll was conducted in manner (a) so that Cody voted and not Sine & Willy Wonka, Tx & CT only had 1 vote each & VCL and other omitted team captains voted then results could have been different.

WillyWonka and sinewav from your Open Team got a vote. Three votes from one team would be a bit much. Why them and not you instead, I don't know.

and btw, are you comparing an open team with random players with one of the oldest and most involved on the comunity clans?

That fake team didn't even show up. Some players who were allowed to vote didn't even play! Next time, please pick better candidates. Actual teamleaders instead of members who showed up.

CT only had 1 team for Ladle 36 i believe i don't think how many teams a clan had in past ladles should count. As for CT-Kyle, if he was an organizer or server admin i would probably agree that he should be allowed to vote as i suggested in the voting criteria i proposed.

By VCL i meant Vecolity or tesW dliW (which ever one that played) they had a team on Ladle 36 and didn't get a vote i believe.

Ok so perhaps the voting criteria should be a little more specific.

a) Only captains of teams that participated (played) in the ladle & server admins are allowed to vote. (Elected committee as well if we make them)

b) Everybody that participated (played or their name listed on a team) in the ladle is allowed to vote.

or

c) Anybody is allowed to vote.

If the point of these votes is to best reflect the concerns/climate of the community then transparency and cooperation in the organization, voting, and results is crucial. I respect dlh and everyone who voted a lot, but 24 players chosen by one person and voting in private messages doesn't represent the community to me. Isn't that obvious? Already the selection of voters has become a problem.

If the community is going to support any type of committee then let's start making one.

You know, voting is fundamentally flawed anyway. You only get one vote for each thing, so the results are going to be a mish-mash of different factions' preferences rather than a meaningful compromise that reflects the needs and will of the community.

Besides that, I thought that dlh picking people that are seen as leaders in the community and are pretty involved with the ladle was a smooth move, because it really targeted people that other people actually listen to. His criteria was obviously somewhat informal, so it makes sense that some of you object to the formal criteria that wasn't there.

He posted it as a poll, not as a binding committee decision. Instead of arguing over whether or not this person should have voted or that person should have voted, can y'all talk about the results themselves? How many pages have we gotten to in this thread without anybody actually saying what they think about the results? (besides a few nit-pickers)

This was a first run through on a PM vote system, We should all expect Errors. The idea was simple. It was supped to represent the people who take part in the ladles, but obviously some people got left out and had a few that maybe should hot have been in there.

Continually complaining about it now does not help the idea now. We know what happed, Lets go about finding a way to fix it.
I believe that Team leaders and server admins of the ladle in question should be the ones that vote on it. As for team leaders this should be a vote discussed within your team. Your vote should represent your team's dessication. As for server admins, they have been around and know how the ladle works.

How many pages have we gotten to in this thread without anybody actually saying what they think about the results?

I'll say what I think about the results. I think they are fantastic. It shows that, even though the slice of the community is questionable, we as a community are not all about the "witch-hunt". In a hostile situation, we've chosen to forgive and move on rather than cannibalize each other.

This is a new process for a new situation. We've never had to do it before. And I think we are learning from it. The above suggestions on how to improve it are good and will surely be taken into consideration for next time, if there even is a next time.
