Fortress World Cup [unfinished idea]

Me, Gonzap & Nuby were talking about a Fortress World Cup, it would be really fun imo. I have no idea how to organize this or what the rules would be so I figured I'd make a topic so we could brainstorm, I'll edit the topic accordingly.

So I take it would be countries pitted against each other? Say UK, USA (probably split this into East and West), Canada, Spain, etc?

Sounds good, probably just organise it similar to a ladle-meets-America.vs.Europe, with people from each country standing up to make teams for their country, and players being free to join countries they are from (or countries they used to live in/feel a part of)

I saw the discussion you had on irc and the only input/objection I have is that it would be bad imo if a country was allowed to be represtented by more than 1 team*. But my country wouldn't be in this competition so I guess my input isn't worth much.

*Yeah it's true that for example USA or Germany possibly have enough players to form two teams, and that's taken into account.

Here's an idea, what if players made teams with friends within the game, and then they competed monthly in a tournament? I think there's a nice thing going on here.

You could make pseudo-countries like "asia", "south america", "eastern europe", "northern europe", etc.

Even something like austrio-hungary or spain-france.

yeah sure, we would make bunchs of countries that have not enough players to be one

Why not just keep it simple - 1 team per country, 1 country per team. So what if you only get 7 teams and three of them only have 5 players? Might still be great fun and become a reoccuring tradition.
That will make
1) the other countries want to gather enough players to compete
2) the left-out players in the already competing countries want to improve and fight for a spot on their country's team.

How will the players be decided? Having a vote like for the Eu vs Na competition for every country seems rather complicated.

I mean, I doubt every team has like hordes of players able to show up from the same country so I'm sure everyone gets to play. Unlike the Europe vs North America thing, I want this to be where everyone gets to play! So no voting shizzle, ja.

I'm lazy, can someone make a list of countries who would be able to participate? (just guess)

Hoax, viper, flex, roger that, 2020, fingerbib, pez, potter, and myself all live here according to ladle gridstats (although I would feel obliged to play for a hong kong, or asian team )
