Here's one example of a very simple ladder system. With some modifications it could be what you're looking for. There are more sophisticated ladders out there, of course. That doesn't mean a basic one won't work.Titanoboa wrote:As it seems, you are looking for some sort of a ladder system.

@titan: the notion of doing a 'place-swap' style has always been there for me, and I suppose its a fair one, as long as there are other rules in place to prevent certain abuses (which are outlined in the link you gave, some of which had not occured to me)

All these leagues are doomed to fail due to lack of interest over time.
Did that contribute?

All these leagues are doomed to fail due to the people who don't care about them shooting the ideas down instead of just leaving them alone.
Let the interested people give it a shot before you jump to conclusions. It has failed in the past, but it's worth to try again. If players/teams drop out over time, then so be it.

Re: League of Fort Clans
A flexible system like you seem to be suggesting here has been mentioned before. Some how integrated either directly into Armagetron or as some sort of script so that on the fly something like /startladdermatch teama teamb could be done. Darned if I could find the thread though.syllabear wrote:Hmm, unfortunately, looking around for similar things to the ClanBase site, and all of them are league generators, which include fixtures. Looks like someone will have to come up with a system for ranking (probably me, unless someone has any ideas), as I am not using something that requires teams/clans to play weekly, let alone on a set date system.
And then the system would probably use the wiki, and some excel program (which I can do, thanks to hundreds of useless IT lessons) to figure out where everyone goes.

Set it up just now, as well as briefed a set of joining rules and challenge rules. For now I'm not going to accept clans or teams yet, but if you want to put your name down for interest, just send me a pm on the arma forums and signup for this new one (linked above). This is because I want to setup somewhere to display the current listings of the ladder, either on another free site, or possibly on the wiki.
I also mention somewhere in the rules, that there will be admins who will run the league and manage disputes. If anyone is possibly up for helping me with this endevour, then please send me a pm, and get on these new forums
I also have (tentatively) included a section not related to the "Fortress League", which I thought of. As it stands, if clans wish to challenge each other to a war, they usually make a post on one anothers forums, and work it out that way, or they do it in the rather adhoc way, of if they have enough players on the grid at one time, they'll suggest a war, and it'll be a scramble to do a few matches.
The section I have included allows all clans to view potentially if one clan is open for a war at a certain time, but haven't decided on who to war, or aren't really bothered (say they want a clanwar after training. They know they'll have enough members on, but they don't know what other clans will too). This allows open challenging to clanwars/funwars.
I'll finish with a quoted copy of the signup rules, incase anyones too lazy to click a few links:

Signup wrote:There are a few requirements to signup for Fortress League:
1. You must be a representative of the clan or team you are signing up
2. You or another representative of your clan or team must agree to be active on these forums
3. You or another representative of the clan or team must have read, understood and agree to these rules, and the challenge rules
4. Your clan or team must have at least 6 members
5. None of your members must be a part of the squads signed up for any other teams or clans currently a part of the Fortress League
If you agree to all of this, then make a post here, or send me a PM here or on the Armagetron forums, including your clan name, tag, and a list of current members who would be willing to play in fortress matches.
Note
This is a first draft of the signup requirements, so any suggestions are welcome, and this may be subject to ammendment in the future.

Re: League of Fort Clans
You know, if you implemented ALL the gametypes we could finally have an answer who the current best team is
But getting every clan to sign up would be near impossible I guess.
Anyhow sounds fun

You couldn't even spend the time to make a "real forum" for your league? Wow...

Anyways back on topic...
I am definitely looking forward to this. I think most clans would stay involved in this longer because they tend to be larger (So if people can't make it, others can fill in) and perhaps more oranized. I could see this working for about a year continuously. My only thought is maybe make it like a "fort season" so don't do it year round, but instead have the season (maybe playoffs or something) and then some offtime, and then a new season. This might make people keep interest more because there IS an end in sight for each season and they can get pumped up for the next one.
