Yes, I did read them. All stories on this are incorrect however.

The truth is that football and soccer were, of course, once the same thing. For the sake of understanding, I'll use football to describe american football (der der der ). When soccer first came to the Americas it was a great game. As more and more people became obese, soccer lost its glory. There weren't as many players available to play. America continued being obese, thus football was created. It is the only official sport where obese people are actually sought to play (linemen). Overall they were both the same thing at one point and the obese Americans took the name football and ran with it. All shapes and sizes, no matter how fat or small, deserved to play a sport.

Many linemen aren't necessarily obese (though, certainly, many are, especially the younger you get). They're huge, but a lot of that's muscle (and, of course, muscle weights more than fat). And it wasn't that long ago that the average lineman was the size of today's average linebacker, even smaller—and that was when "3 yards and a cloud of dust" was the name of the game.

Now, you want a sport where actually obese people are sought-after, the name is right under your Armagetron nose: Sumo wrestling.

And weight certainly does hinder baseball players. A select minority just make up for it with slugging ability and usually play DH, or sit on 1st base when on defense. And even then, again, like linemen, a lot of that is muscle, not just fat. And the word was "obese," not "big."

Weight does hinder baseball players, I just did a terrible job of implying that I was comparing it to other sports. When was the last time you saw an obese/fat/overweight/out of shape runner in the Olympics?
