I was wrong. Although Portugol was the leading country to discover the new world, they did not have any colonies west of 46 degrees, due to the treaty with Spain, The Treaty of Tordesillas.

Should this topic be split into a new one called "The wonderful horrible history of the UNITED States"?

that grammer doesn't make sense :D

A better name would be:
Colonies of Pre-revolutionary United States (relating to who cares about the fourth of July)

It would be best without the last part :p

Assuming you mean skip the July ladle, I second that.

It's summer time, and children don't have to deal with school right now. This being a game largely played by children, the ladle teams and clans are practicing a lot right now, hoping to progress the most over the summer.

If we hold off ladle until August, teams will not only have more time to practice during the day because of no school, but also have two months to take advantage of this time, equaling imo a pretty epic ladle.

In addition, the extra time can be used to encourage more players to form teams and play - the next ladle will most likely surpass sixteen teams regardless, and allowing two months to prepare may bring us even closer to a full 32 team bracket.

Note that I do not support making ladle a every-other-month event, but rather just skipping July. That way the August ladle becomes The Summer Ladle, a heck of an entertaining event.
This is BS. The last thing the "children" would want is having to miss the ladle one month because of extra practice time. It's the summer time and I look forward to playing two ladles without having to go to school the next day. Extra practice time just means that teams will be ready to play sooner.

Why did the idea of skipping a month come up so quickly? Orion made a post about changing the ladle date and a few posts later we're already considering not doing it? Are you burnt out sine? If someone wants to skip a month they can. And if a whole team wants to skip a month they can! Although this does bring up an interesting theme that has reoccured the past few months - changing the Ladle date. The first Sunday of every month is consistent and predictable, but I'm glad we have the ability to adapt to circumstances. Let's not stop ourselves from doing so by just saying, "Screw the Ladle this month!" :)

Yeah... I don't think this game is largely played by children (maybe mentally ;). And if not the whole game, at least the Ladles aren't. I wonder what the average age of active tronners is (and the average age of those participating in the Ladle).

You would have to define how old you mean by "children" as well. Some folks in their thirties or forties maybe think a 19 year old is a child where me, at the age of 16, would think a 19 year old wouldn't come close to a child. (:

I personally don't think the Ladle date should ever be changed. I don't think Ladles should ever be skipped. If you can't make it, big deal - play next month.

But since very few people share my viewpoint, I would just suggest skipping Ladle for a month rather than have circular debates about which date is better. Because suddenly, you have 30+ people checking their calendar and trying to bend the date around their personal schedule. And every time you make an exception (like for the World Cup), then you snowball the types of exceptions you allow to change Ladle-time.

But everything I said above is a moot point because...

Orion made this topic in error. There are no World Cup games scheduled on Ladle day. And since the US's holiday is NOT a good enough reason to change the Ladle date, it will continue as planed.

I repeat: Ladle does NOT conflict with the World Cup in anyway. There is no need to vote on a date change.

How is the 4th of July not a good enough reason to change ladle date?

@Deso, to each his own.

@Appa, somebody should do statistics on that, I'd be curious to know. The servers I frequent seem to be, from my understanding, largely minors, but I would agree that the active forums community may seem a bit older.

@INW, child = younger than 18 in most states legally, younger than 21 imo.

@Sine, Sounds good, though I kind of agree with what Luck just said - what is a good enough reason to change the ladle?

In my opinion, none. I can't think of anything outside a global catastrophe in the order of asteroid collisions that should affect Ladle.
LucK wrote:How is the 4th of July not a good enough reason to change ladle date?
 It should be obvious, but you are from the US so I'll spell it out for you.

The holiday of a single country should not be considered in an international competition. If we took into consideration the holidays of every country involved in Ladle, we would never get to play. It's bad enough we move things around for Christmas and New Years (which I also don't approve of). There is nothing special about the US.

While I think we should strongly adhere to a strict Ladle schedule, I also understand that we should be flexible when needed. The World Cup, in my opinion, is an international competition of greater worth and value than the Olympics, especially with regards to Arma. A good number of Fortress player also play football (soccer), and Fortress itself contains some of the principals of football (thus the name "fortress_soccer"). Even so, I don't think it should interfere in any way with the Ladle, and luckily, it doesn't this time.

The NBA plays on Xmas every year.
The NFL plays on New Years.
TOOL is playing a concert on the 4th of July this year.

If you guys value watching fireworks that much, then skip a ladle - its a damn video game.
If you guys don't care to watch fireworks, don't skip the damn ladle - its a damn fireworks show.

In any case, some of you should get outdoors more often. Maybe breathing in fresh oxygen will allow for blood cells to reach your neck.

I don't know about others, but I am American and I can make the ladle. Since the ladle is in the morning/pre-afternoon and I usually don't shoot fireworks/party till late afternoon...
