Corn: that is exactly what happened to me, I installed vista service pack two and my comp got screwed over

I would just go with what Word said and download Linux if anything just for the ladle. You could figure out a permanent fix after that unless you wish to stick with linux. (Which works very well, it's just difficult to learn/get used to.)

Do you have another computer in your household? You could burn linux to a cd and boot it up with it in the cd drive.
